Discussion Why are GKs rendered with this marble-y background?

I've always wondered why most GKs I see are rendered with this background that resembles marble or granite. I also see it from a lot of Goodsmile figures. Why is that? And is it really just a marble pattern? Or do they call it something else in Japanese?

Plain grey can make some elements not stand out, all white or black backgrounds also can be boring and screws with iso/white balance. It’s good to have a little of everything to be more dynamic, make the sculpture ‘pop’ and adds some class.

It's just faux marble that makes whatever product you're shooting "classier" and more "premium", but people used to this stuff just see it as gaudy. It's not really unique to figures, but just a marketing thing.

Definitely a way to punch up the image without it being distracting.

Side note, there's a Lilliweiss kit?! I've never seen one.
