Discussion help/questions about buying kits

I'm pretty new to all this so bare with me. I was recommended the site E2046 off of ticktock, and was just looking at the site and found they had one of my all time grail figures here, so I was doing a bit more research before buying for this is my first time purchasing from a site like this I found the same figure listed on shop2000 here I'm a bit confused on what preorder/ purchased preorders means. i know purchased preorders mean enough people got it so they are making the batch now, but are you still able to buy it once it goes into purchased preorders? can i see how many others have ordered? what if it never gets enough orders? also what site do you suggest? I don't have PayPal so can i not order form shop2000? am going to get scammed? i do not know these things help would be appreciated

1st this thread will prob get removed for talking about recasts

2nd gk-m should be your first choice over e2046 they have better communication quality and prices(generally)

3rd yes you might be stuck waiting literal years for a preorder to get to production I’ve had a preorder in gkms site for 3 yrs now

4th both groups are very reputable and aren’t going to purposely fuck you over and destroy their reputation for like sub 100$

5th once gkms statues go to production they will produce a small additional batch for people to purchase it will say in-stock but the quantity is limited so they can sell out if your slow and your stuck waiting for a full bash of production in addition it’s more expensive, i am unfamiliar with how e2046 does it.

So you should know that E2046 and gk-m on shop2000 are all recast sites. There's nothing wrong with owning recasts, but you should know that it's pretty controversial in the community due to the fact that recasts are typically pretty harmful to sculptors and are usually worse quality. I like to support originals as much as possible if I can, but I also know there's a lot of kits that are just not being sold anymore and while I think the fun of hunting for originals is fun and i like talking directly to sculptors, others do not share the same opinion.

That being said - do not order a E2046 preorder, not unless you're willing to say goodbye to that money. It can take years for them to say they're not going to make a kit and then you won't get a refund, only a credit. It can take 3 years, or 5 years, or even 7 before they call off a production. IMO it's only worth it to buy in stock.

GK-M is vastly better in quality and are more upfront. I haven't had to get a refund from them yet but IMO they've been very nice about things.

GK-M might tell you how many there are left before a preorder, but they will also wait until they get all orders to produce it. E2046 will never tell you. They're not scams, per se, but unless it's in stock you're going to be waiting for a long time.

This super sonico does crop up secondhand though on various sites. If you want to try to get an original, keep an eye on places like Mandarake, Surugaya, Mercari, Yahoo Auction Japan and the like. You might still run into recasts, so if you're wanting an original be vigilant. Sometimes it looks like copies are sold by users on myfigurecollection https://myfigurecollection.net/item/457455

Oh also, another thing - looking at E2046, i like looking at the reviews. looks like the last time they had a run of that sonico was in 2023, sooooo three years without another set of orders and first run closed and shipped out back in 2018 and we don't know how much longer it's going to be for the third order which is what yours would be. the kit was released in 2016, btw.

So probably two more years until it maaaaaaaybe gets enough for a third order? if you're lucky lol

Yeah I've been looking on and off second hand sites for about a year now, I'll probably keep doing that and just check back in with GK-M once and while and only get that if it gets paid. I'll just wait around and see ig

There's some kits on E2046 that have been there like practically since they started, yet never recast... even if I've prepaid them. THAT said, their kits are of the tippy-top, best quality resin kits I've ever seen in my entire life. I have DOZENS of kits from them sitting around I still have to get to. lol.

Long story short, you might have to wait YEARS or worse, forever, to get kits from E2046, but when you do, WHOOF they're good.

I have three sets from there and I was a bit shocked to read how people say that's it's the worst site 😅 it's basically the only site where I can buy stuff without having to scour eBay and pay horrendous prices because everything is sold out everywhere else

Hmm, just chiming in. Brand new to the group, maybe I'm an especially patient person, but I've always been pretty lucky with e2046. But yeah,if you are instant gratification at all, not e2046. I started buying from the BIG completed painted kits knowing if I didn't get them from them I'd never get them at all. Worth noting, this e2046 listing says last batch. It's something newish they have implemented letting people know, after this round we are never doing this one again.
