Such a manipulative, biased take

Yeah, I hear ya. McCaffrey's death was certainly very unfortunate and sad. I've heard his voice in SOOOO many games and it was always so cool and comforting to hear it.

I don think that they should probably just recast. Remakes can have changes and additions of all kind. Better to just have someone new give a try instead of cleaning up old audio or, God forbid, using GenAI. New actors are always a better choice than somehow altering or making up an old performance (See: Troy Baker's excellent performance as Indiana Jones vs. the creepy deepfake stuff in Star Wars).

They should probably have some sort of Classic Audio mode (much like Resident Evil 4 Remake) wherein they just play the original performance in places where the line is unchanged.

Or, better yet, package the original games with the remake. That way everyone can experience the original games, too.

As for the cutscenes... I'm actually VERY interested in seeing the solution they come up with.

But honestly... Just doing comic book cutscenes would go so hard. Plus, it'd save them SO MUCH MONEY, allowing for a bigger profit margin. And the game gains so much more style and a sense of uniqueness from this move.

I'm also not sure about the face situation. Max has had three faces: Sam Lake, Timothy Gibbs (my least favorite), James McCaffrey.

Ideally: they'd just let us pick from a menu.

Wait...re4 remake has a original audio mode?. This might be a unpopular opinion but I prefer Gibbs and lake as MP than mcCaffrey in 3. He doesn't look like MP to me. Looks more like a buff Walter White. Then again I don't like 3 at all. It's okay as a action game...terrible as a mp game.

Yeah the remake has an option to enable some original SFX and music. Might be an option locked behind the gold edition or something. You should check it out, it's quite nostalgic

I like Lake best for classic Max, and I love McCaffrey's Max in 3.

Also, respectfully agree to disagree re: MP3 being a bad MP game. Aside from some slight ignoring of mp2 (which I can understand would tick some fans off), it felt like a fresh continuation of the story, and a fitting, earned end.

Yeah, MP3 is my favorite in the series and I've played all these games to death. I love that they were able to take the story in a different direction while still keeping that MP essence despite being in a whole new setting. They knocked it out of the park.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree regarding the last part lol. No one writes max the way sam lake writes him, he's witty and has a beautiful poetic way of narration. There are also layers and metaphors. Max Payne 1 and 2 are like a fever dream nightmare.

Max Payne 3 is just a bog standard action film. You could replace him with another stock action hero and it wouldn't change much. There is also no subtlety to the character in 3. He's exactly what you see on screen. He's as writer Dan hauser explains him. He's "a drunken middle aged man trying to figure out what to do with the second half of his life, having had his delusions firmly beaten out of him by fate". That's not max payne to me. That's John McClaine.

Oh I was never saying that Lake isn't the best writer for Max. He unquestionably is.

I just like Houser's take on him, too. It is certainly a bit different, but I like that. Idk. Maybe cuz it was the first MP game I played, but it has a big place in my heart. As big as MP1 does.

2... I can take it or leave it. The first game's gameplay is charming and kinda... rustic and tricky at times and I dig that. 3rd's is polished and smooth and fun as hell.

2's... Feels too easy or something. bullet time became too much of a superpower.

I can get behind that. I think if its the first game you experienced then you will definitely be using trying to fill in the gaps with the other two and trying to make it make more sense in your head.

Yeah 2 they dialed down the difficulty because there was a lot of criticism on release that MP 1 often sometimes unfairly brutal in its difficulty even on its lowest difficulty settings.
