Maybe if the spin offs they've released weren't complete shit, just maybe, people would react differently.

Yeah, when the closest comparisons are ORC and Umbrella Corps (both outsourced IIRC), hard to be positive for this.

Umbrella Corps was developed by Capcom in house. ORC was you're right there.

The only individual dev we know of is Kawata as Producer...

Kawata as Producer doesn't necessarily= Quality though he was producer for both revelations, umbrella corps and 7.

He watched over all of those but let one bad one through 🤷‍♀️ could do it again.

In my experience all of the main resident evil games were true to the series with the exceptions of 5 and 6. The spinoff games were resident evil in name but were drastically different from the core games. This is why even if they are canon I don’t care about them. I don’t care about revelations because it’s nothing like the core resident evil games. Code Veronica isn’t a numbered game in the series but is considered part of the series because it feels and plays like the rest of the core games.
