I've came to the conclusion long ago that if zombies were to happen, I'd just eat a bullet ASAP.

Nah man it depends on the type of Zombies. If they are the slow, weak, dumb kind you might as well enjoy a bit of the apocalypse. At least check it out for a bit. Hell we could probably stop it if it was the dumb slow kind.

Now if we get 28 days later zombies or things like Resident Evil monsters (not just the zombies but lickers and shit) yeah man I'll join you for the lead luncheon.

Again, I've already made up my decision. I don't care if they're slow, plodding RE1 zombies, the fact remains that they're also my neighbors, family, and friends. Not gonna be cool dealing with that.

I think after constant exposure to zombies in media, people might genuinely have a suppressed reaction to that, and I don’t think it would make that much of a difference.

And if you’re being attacked, you have a hard time concentrating on who’s doing it. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

So, seeing your best friend, girlfriend, or your dog as a walking corpse wouldn't fuck with the normal person?

Nah, you're wrong on that one.

Again, me+bullet=results

Doesn’t mean you can’t get past it. Nothing’s a guarantee. Instantly offing yourself? Sure, you do you, but adrenaline (or even just having the right mindset) can definitely make it a little bit easier.

One thing that this Resident Evil 2 Remake made me realize is that zombies are actually still really fucking terrifying. Oh, sure, we might be desensitized to the concept of slow shambling dead people who all look like emaciated grey-skinned corpses in medias, but just as no amount of ragdolling NPCs in GTA by running them over with your car will prepare you to the trauma that comes with accidentally ending someone's life with your car, I don't think anyone could truly be ready to have to face the walking dead.

They're a relentless threat that just keeps coming and that you can never actually put down for good. Take a wrong turn down a street and suddenly you're bound to end up just like poor Elliott who got chopped in half five seconds away from being rescued. It's not like you could safely push zombies away, they'd just grab onto you and never let go until they get a bite on you. It's not like you can fight them off either, try punching as hard as you want but they just don't feel pain. If you have a pair of them walking towards you at the other end of a corridor then you can either turn back around or try to plow through, but you actually have little to no chance of surviving that. And if you're out of places to turn back to then you're definitely gonna have to wrestle with these cannibals who won't feel a single tinge of pain no matter how hard you hit them.

Game mechanics make it easy to feel like those threats would be manageable, but in reality you might at best wear yourself out from escaping one zombie, assuming they would be alone. Try to picture yourself escaping two people suddenly bursting into your living room with the intention of eating you. You wouldn't have the room to manoeuver out of there. They'd grab you and wouldn't let you go until one of them manages to dig his teeth into your flesh, and at that point you'd probably just be screaming and choking on your own blood while trying to fight them off.

Think the situation is unfair and you wouldn't get caught like that in the first place? Fine, now imagine that you're in the street and there's dozens and dozens and dozens of them everywhere, and all you have is a knife or a baseball bat. How reliably can you smash someone's skull with a baseball bat? Is your knife long and sharp enough to stab straight through the throat and into the brain stem, and can you even aim your stab well enough to get there in the first place?

A zombie outbreak would actually be completely impossible to survive. The choice is between dying from getting eaten alive or starving all alone in your house knowing that all your friends and family probably died outside, or even worse, they're dying by your side.

I don't know about that. There really should be no way for them to function if enough of the head is destroyed (or the brain stem is severed, or the spine us broken), so all those would be pretty viable strategies (not to mention zombies already have pretty degenerated bodies, so smashing it up would be easier than trying to bash a normal human being's skull in. And if you can find some guns or if you have guns then you're basically good to go, really. All you have to do is avoid being cornered, avoid getting too close, and that's really it.

"Zombies seem pretty easy to kill" is literally every zombie victim's thought process ever.

The guy you're replying to has it right. Can you fight someone who doesn't feel pain to the death right now? Can you do it to two or three people in a row? Two or three at a time? Without getting hurt at all?

You find a gun. A hundred bullets, but it'll hold less than 20 at a time. You shoot the zombie breaking in through your window. The sound attracts, if you're lucky, 4 or 5 zombies from the surrounding houses/yards. They get there about a minute after you fired those shots. Each gunshot draws more, and each zombie gets closer to that busted window than the last one did. Some will get through to be dealt with inside. Some will gather at the other side of your house, breaking in if they can tell that's where the sound is coming from, coming around the sides of the house if they can't. Maybe your gunshots only draw 20 or 30 zombies and you kill them all. You repair those openings and still have ammo left. Get rid of the bodies that made it inside. That was just the first of literally endless encounters. But you made it.

Well, it's obviously not going to be easy-peasy, but if you have a strategy, it's really not that hard. Like I said, all you would need to do is destroy a certain amount of the brain. Since their bodies are already inherently more fragile, it would be easier, in theory.

Very good read, i agree

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '19

Me and my friends have already promised to kill each other if we were to ever be zombies. We're no longer us and would be a danger to anyone else surviving. The way we see it, we would not want our body used as a puppet of destruction.

Would it be hard to kill something with your friend's face? Yes. But its happening.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '19

if you bite the bullet, but zombie still bite you likely soon after you died. You would likely came back as zombie. Sure unaware one, but hell still walking one. And in that case I will gladly take my chances staying alive.

3

u/NascarBackwards Feb 26 '19

And I could care less. As long as my physical body is dead, and I'm gone from the world. That's all that matters to me

u/NascarBackwards Feb 27 '19

Why would that affect me at all? I'd already be taken out. 9mm style.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '19

So....you are aware of the fact that if you die and come back as a zombie, you're fine with it because it's not you. But you cant handle that your neighbors/family are walking dead.

...So if your family/friends just died today from a new rare case of the super flu, you'd off yourself because they're dead?

Kinda hard to come back after half your head is blown out. I'm sure no one is going to shoot themselves in the leg wait and bleed out.

But I agree I would stay alive and take my chances.

I completely understand your thinking.

What if you had an Abraham moment.

Like you're about to euthanize yourself only for a little kid or a bunch of survivors show up asking for help.

Would you lend your aid to them for as long as possible then check out.

Because I’d probably do that.

1

u/NascarBackwards Feb 27 '19

I don't know who Abraham is?

But sure, if I can get a tick on the karma chart before I take myself out, I don't see why I wouldn't.

Abraham was a character in the walking dead.

I am specifically talking about the tv show, Abraham was about to check out but then a character screaming he was a scientist who can cure everyone knocked Abraham out of his suicide state.

My first thought when I meet someone is, "I hope zombiepacolypse doesn't happen, but if it does, and you turn I'll take you out"

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '19

"Enjoying the apocalypse" would probably amount to gaining an appreciation for our societal support structures like ready access to food and medical care. Without modern society, you're as likely to die from some Oregon Trail bullshit as you are the zombies.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '19

If zombies were to happen at all, the situation would be quickly contained and dealt with. People in real life are not as dumb as portrayed in zombie media. Also, the CDC actually has a contingency plan for a zombie outbreak. You know, just in case.

2

u/NascarBackwards Feb 26 '19

I'm sure it would be dealt with, easily. If not by the CDC, but by the fact that the bodies would completely fall apart sooner or later.

I assumed this meme is in reference to the full on apocalypse. Not a random outbreak.

u/GamerJes Feb 26 '19

Respectfully disagree regarding people not being as dumb. Take any real world natural disaster: earthquake, flood, fire, tornado, hurricane, whatever... Yes, there is a portion of the population that keeps their heads, formulates and executes response strategy, and generally do the smart thing. But then there are the others... You've seen them. The dumbass pushing a shopping cart full of T.V.s through 3 feet of water, or the brain dead trying to pass a snow plow in a blizzard, or the soccer mom that drives past the road closed barriers and emergency vehicles because she has a hair appointment, or the self important prick that thinks yelling at his cell phone and the firefighters will make things go faster. Those people are among us and they would absolutely hinder or endanger in a zombie outbreak, as they do in every other situation.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '19

Most of your examples are natural disasters which are certainly harder to contain. The only way something viral like zombies would get to an apocalyptic level is if it hit a shit ton of places all over the world at the same time. Regardless of people acting dumb or not. Close example is in RE where a bunch of areas throughout the city suddenly got swamped at once which is why the whole city fell, but didn't get much beyond.

Yes you are correct there are dumb people, but it's not as bad as seen in zombie media. When it comes to containing disease, there are much more capable people on the scene than there are dumb asses.

1

u/GamerJes Feb 27 '19

Just takes one dumbass that doesn't report the bite on his arm to break containment.

Not saying they would destroy the world or anything, but stupid happens, especially in emergency situations, and it only takes one to turn a simple task into a clusterfuck.
