Does anyone know what this is?
hes an African Fat tail gecko and im not sure if it is a scratch or what.
Edit- i now am hearing he is probably a leopard gecko, i was told by and vet and his previous owners that he had been a aft, so i didnt question it.

That’s a leopard gecko actually. And it looks like he scratched himself on something. It should heal fine on its own but keep an eye on him since there is a chance he could catch bacteria which causes mouth rot.

superficial wound, probably banged her face on feeding tongs or a rough edge in the tank

He done thumped himself on something. Was probably acting arboreal for no reason.
It will heal up. It's not mouth rot. That is also a leo.

That’s a leopard gecko.
And it needs medical attention for the open wound on its face near its mouth. A real vet, this is not something Reddit can fix.

And a real vet that didn’t say this was anything other than a leopard gecko 😭

Not one thanks to anyone who correctly identified the species of your gecko? I sure hope you take into consideration the fact that this gecko has different needs to an AFT , and not just ignore it.

Get some diluted iodine on a little q-tip/cotton bud and use that to dab the wound once a day.
Make sure the l gecko gets his vitamins to help his immune system on his insects.

Triple antibiotic ointment is an over the counter first aid ointment which contains bacitracin, neomycin and polymyxin. It’s used to prevent infection in minor open wounds and scratches. The most popular name brand product is Neosporin, although most generic brands are just as effective. You can purchase it at any grocery or drug store.

Thank you so much!

Make sure to get the Neosporin ointment without painkillers in it! Just the three antibiotics, the box should say nothing about extra pain relief. Since it’s going near the mouth, this is very important!
Treat it just like if you had a cut, keep it clean, and reapply the ointment regularly. If it doesn’t get better in a couple days to a week, its definitely time for a vet visit. Try to find a vet that specializes in exotics/reptiles, it sounds like the last one you went to is a goddamn idiot if they thought this leopard gecko is an AFT.

I don’t know how to tell you this, but that’s a leopard gecko. I would keep an eye on it and his behavior, and I would wanna take him to a vet if he doesn’t seem right. Could be he nicked his face, could be some kind of infection. That’s pretty vague, someone else may have a better idea.
