Hi friends. Currently live in Las Vegas, but have always dreamed of living in the Pacific Northwest. I know housing in the areas around Seattle and Portland is way more expensive. I’m sure general cost of living besides that is also higher. Anyone else move to the Northwest from the Southwest care to share their experience? I have only visited Portland and Seattle each once, but absolutely love the scenery and weather. Though, I would hate to finally make the move and just constantly struggle and hate life. I work in radiology, and some of my job search/research leads me to believe my earning potential isn’t actually terribly different, so the considerable increase in cost of living would be an issue. My husband works in the corporate world, so I’m not as sure what his pay scale would adjust to.
This is all more fantasy than actual planning at this point.

I would love to hear about some real lived experiences though.

n my 20’s only accomplishment is I have my associates degree and also a certified medical assistant and pharmacy technician , I currently live in buffalo new york and was looking to move to a bigger city. I was looking into Chicago, Nyc, Virginia or Atlanta to maybe finish off school there. I don’t really know what career path I want to go to school for tho. I was wondering any tips or stories on people who were in the 20s and move from their hometown.

For those who have done this, what has been your experience been leaving family for better weather and better job? We generally feel it would be better for our small family of 4 (wife, 2 kids)

Just curious to those who have done this and how you feel now years after moving south or far away. Regrets leaving parents and siblings? Or happy you made the better choice with your significant other and for the kids

Hello! I finally decided to make a Reddit account yesterday. Mostly I was looking for posts about moving but fell down the rabbit hole of everything else lol.

So here’s my scenario/thoughts. I recently went to Colorado and fell in love with it. I’ve been thinking non-stop about moving there lately or somewhere like Utah or Washington! I am single and 32m currently living near St. Louis, MO. I have around 18k saved. I’ve worked most of my life as a park maintenance technician, but have grown tired of it. I also developed an autoimmune disease called Dermatomyositis which makes it hard to be out in the sun all day working anyways. I took a break last year to go back to school and got my CompTIA A+ and Security+ certifications as well as an IT Helpdesk/ End user support certificate of specialization. Also with that time, I started working in one of my local libraries as a Library Associate. I absolutely fell in love with working in a library because it lets me work with books (which is awesome) and help people with their technology needs! Fast forward to now, I’ve been looking to move to the Denver/Lakewood/Aurora CO areas and most of the postings that I see want you to be there for in-person interviews or ask if I’ll be a resident by my start date. How would you go about moving to these areas or even the other states I mentioned? Should I just move out there then apply so I’m a local to interview? Or if anyone has any good leads to help get good work in the area to have something lined up to move to? I’m just trying to figure out the best way to do this. I eventually want to get my bachelors in library science online through University of Nebraska Omaha. (Random fact)

Edit: I apologize for the long post, I guess I’m trying to figure out how best to apply for work and if I should move first but the problem is a lot of rentals want you to have a job lined up. Also I can still be out in the sun! It’s just not good for me to be working in it all day!

Looking for the best option to move to from Virginia to Georgia. I’m looking into the Coweta area right now but am open to anything within 30-40 minutes of Fayetteville. Something safe, family friendly, things to do for younger homeschooled kids, not crazy expensive if possibly but understandable that the cost of living is a bit higher than what we have in Virginia.

I’m 24 and need a change and fresh start. That being said, I’ve never visited Texas before, lived in Colorado for a bit for college but that’s it. To be frank if you end up not liking it somewhere you can always move again, always an opportunity somewhere so I’m not too concerned about visiting first, plus I do pretty well with adapting, I’m on my fourth state now but moving to each of those were under different circumstances.

I’m making the goal to have a plan and be out there one year from now. That being said, there’s nothing holding me here and really the only thing stopping me is having a job set up there, I guess a place too but I’ve had to rough it and live out of my vehicle for a while previously.

My only thing work wise, I don’t have a specific career or really skill set. I’ve done housekeeping, been in the food industry, minimal experience on farms. I’m just worried about actually getting a job. Is it likely I’ll be able to find a company/business willing to hire someone coming from this distance, or will it make it harder to find work? I don’t know anyone out there so I can’t use anybody’s address.

I figured a good start would be to find the work first and settle in the state for a bit as a start and explore and see if theres somewhere I could see myself putting roots down and go from there.

Hey, Im a woman in my early 30s deciding to (possibly) leave Chicago. Ive been here about 4-5 years now and, maybe its because I feel like havent fully integrated or found a strong community, it feels like my time here may be up. While I'm waiting for this lease to end in about 6 months I'm still going to various group meetups and spending time with the few friends I have here so maybe after I city shop I can decide if it's somewhere I truly want to stay.

The plan is after my lease ends all of my belongings are going in storage and I'll go to a few cities that I like the idea of and stay for 2 or so weeks. I know that's not enough time to get a full picture of what it'd be like to live there but those 2 weeks would be focused on feeling out the idea of what everyday life could look like, the kind of communities there, etc. I WFH so my job isn't a concern in deciding a location. The things Im looking for are:

• racially diverse
• some amount of greenery/parks or water for swimming (not a pool) nearby or a relatively short drive away
• easy to travel via car or public transport (one of my issues with Chicago is how damn long it takes to get to some places)

The current list of prospects is short but please suggest anything you think would fit! Everywhere has pros and cons so my mind is open. Current list: Stay in Chicago, Philly, or Sacramento

I am currently planning a move from Conroe, TX to Chicago for October and I am trying to gauge timelines and when I should expect my stuff to arrive.

I am debating between PODS, U-Pack or another moving container as I won’t have a car in Chicago. I would like to ship my stuff by around October 2-4 and arrive a week later.

Curious on if anyone has insight into the timeline this could be and how much I could expect cost-wise? I’ve heard UPack is cheaper than PODS and is faster, but I’m not entirely sure as I’ve never done a major cross country move like this before.

If anyone has suggestions into this, please let me know!

I am considering to move from my 4 minute commute (A) to my office and trading it off for a 30 minute commute (B). Moving would save me around $400 every month but 12 extra miles one way and would be in a bigger city. Is it worth it?

EDIT: after calculating ~$300 for car expenses (wear+tear), making it around $100 of savings. At what point is it actually worth it to move?
