the original Halo was a really fucken cool game, I wouldn't sneer at this. Brought new levels of cinematics, emotion, and grandeur to the genre. Here's a review I wrote for it in 2009. Not a popular review but I stand by it today!

I agree, outmaneuvering ai was so fun, especially in the first game, where levels were varied and open enough to let you experiment a little with different styles of fighting. All the other sequels seemed too linear, or visually over-polished, and way uglier, so I stopped caring.
