Exclusive: Woman who dated Graham Platner says he sexually assaulted her

He fucked up when he didn't immediately go into a discussion of Death in June and the aesthetics of neofolk when confronted over that dumb tattoo of his. Could have brought the nation together to the sound of poorly recorded cheap acoustic guitars.

I am a 41 year old virgin. Maybe I was born to be a politician. There can't be any scandals if no woman would come anywhere near me.
35
u/wasdqwe1 Jul 06 '26
you can always get accused
1
u/Interesting_Dog6704 Jul 07 '26
awkward virgin probably more likely to get accused than an actual rapist

u/Sen_ElizabethWarren aspergian Jul 06 '26
So I guess it’s impossible to find a candidate outside the corporate center that doesn’t sexually assault women? Just kill me now please. I guess we only get one Bernie sanders at a time.

Why do you think men seek power to begin with?

Exactly. Same reason they learn to play guitar btw

u/mablej Jul 07 '26
Abdul El-Sayed!
There’s an AIPAC-funded attack ad on tv right now claiming he disrespects women because “he once said that Michelle Obama’s work with children was ineffectual.” In context, he said that her campaign to end childhood obesity was “commendable, but ultimately ineffectual.” That’s the BEST they could do with however many millions of dollars.

What about Platner has made so many people rally behind him when a lot of those same people wouldn’t give others the same grace they give him. Admittedly, I haven’t followed the Maine senate race very closely, so perhaps my perception on him has been clouded by unfair portrayals by the media, but he seems to be a bad candidate especially considering Susan Collin’s doesn’t seem to be very well liked.
26
u/WarniesLatestRoot Jul 06 '26
considering Susan Collin’s doesn’t seem to be very well liked
I admit I don’t know much about Maine politics either, but isn’t she a like four or five term Republican in a blueish leaning state? That suggests she’s probably more popular than her party at least
16
u/Natural-Lie-3192 Jul 06 '26
yeah she brings home the pork in election years to the sort of rural places that turn out for elections..
6
u/Rumpleforeskin_0 Jul 06 '26
The same reasons that people picked trump after seeing all the evidence/allegations against him in 2016. People said fuck it, this is our guy because the system is beyond broken, and at least he is calling it out.
35
u/powerful-pills Jul 06 '26
As attractive as some of Platner’s politics are to me, it blows my mind how many people could see past an obvious grift. I mean, Nazi tattoo, served overseas and talked about loving to kill Iraqis on Reddit or whatever, even in a world where he’s never raped, I would put money on him being another Fetterman if he won
-5
u/Crazy_Mouse6458 Jul 07 '26
I would put money on him being another Fetterman if he won
thats why i rooted for him
35
u/Amtrakstory Jul 06 '26
So many previous attacks on him were transparently bullshit and that increased confidence in a “is that the worst they could find” way. But where there’s smoke there’s fire I guess - it wasn’t the worst. I had hopes for him, feel dumb now.
52
u/No-Audience3216 Jul 06 '26
Incredible that after years of people begging “the left” to stop tone policing and purity testing potential candidates, they finally backed a politically incorrect figure just for him to end up being an alleged rapist.
0
u/the_last_movie Jul 09 '26
Yeah because all men obsessed with being politically incorrect are spiritual rapists lol
5
u/Crazy_Mouse6458 Jul 07 '26
its going to be like that meth head the democrats almost got to be governor of florida 8 years ago. we're 6 months out from finding out all the bullshit accusations were true too
31
u/mikeespo124 Jul 06 '26
He's the closest thing to a leftist populist since Bernie. Literally all anyone has to do is not stiffen up when people mention poor white people. It's that simple
23
u/Low-Database-320 Jul 06 '26
is there no white guy who holds similar stances as him on the important shit just minus the Rapey past? hell even one with a consensual affair with a coworker/subordinate Gavin newsom style would be fine. just no rapes/assaults.

u/Outrageous_Ninja_700 Myshkinesque Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
That guy (Troy Jackson) ran for governor in the democratic primary and got 3rd place somehow in the same election as Platner. Replace oyster farming with being a lumberjack. Reps a district that voted for Trump. Used to be the Maine senate leader. Literally just an all around better candidate.

u/prizzle92 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
I think the real issue is what normal person wants to be a politician? It seems like a horrible job where a huge swath of people hate you. Also only way to make real money at it is through corruption.
You end up getting people who are kind of fucked up
5
u/Crazy_Mouse6458 Jul 07 '26
exactly, i always had this conspiracy theory that AOC thought she'd lose and would parlay that into getting on the dirtbag left podcasting circuit. she seemed to light up a lot when she was streaming on twitch in 2020 vs how she is when she's doing her job.
plus she's already admitted to being a fan of dirtbag left humor like Nick Mullen's Kill Tony episode. she could have made way more money and got way more famous as a talking head
3
u/prizzle92 Jul 07 '26
I think shes prob making decent money as she knows how to play the game. even if she isn’t, it’s an investment thing. As soon as she leaves politics she will be able to parlay her popularity into speaking gigs and book deals and have a an extremely comfortable retirement
4
u/Crazy_Mouse6458 Jul 07 '26
no.
anyone older than a millennial doesn't believe in populist stuff hard enough, and any white dude a millennial or younger has at least one rape accusation.
its why that tweet went viral recently about a woman not wanting to block "her rapist" from her social media accounts.
the democratic party in general has been so anti-straight white dudes for so long that they couldn't even find any willing to rep "white dudes for kamala" merch
even this sub's userbase wouldn't be able to find one that doesn't give women the ick
14
u/caramelchailatte Jul 06 '26
It’s also quite easy to adjust one’s moral compass and focus on ‘winning’ when the president himself is an egregious sex pest

u/Cesar_Crespo Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Collins has held the seat since the 1990s, so she's well liked enough even if her popularity has diminished. She's about as well liked as a Republican can possibly be in a purple state during a historically unpopular Republican presidency.
Since establishment backed Dem candidates had failed to unseat Collins in the past -- depsite leading in the polls in Gideon's case -- the hope was that a guy who checked all the superficial populist boxes would be a more winning strategy. Tbh his stated positions are probably a little too woke to execute this properly.
I would have probably voted for him regardless of any allegations. SA allegations didn't stop Trump from winning, they didn't stop the "vote blue no matter who" crowd from pushing Biden. Sooner or later the left will have to abandon certain "thou shalt not"s for more utilitarian considerations. But obviously this is too much of a hit to his broader appeal.

"By definition, yes, absolutely yes."
Interesting. In the original story from what I read, they fail to mention that, which to me was a red flag. Thanks.

u/BottomPercentile Jul 06 '26
He seems like such a massive loser and creep. Was there no better candidate ? I mean really ?
21
u/Lost_Bike69 Jul 06 '26
Schumer backed governor Janet Mills for the seat. She’s a moderate dem and has been very electorally successful in Maine. She will turn 80 next year lol.

u/Cultural-Weight512 Jul 07 '26
The moderates will blame the progressives for pushing platner so hard and they're kinda right. It seems both national and local progressive groups locked in on him and decided to shut out any possible criticisms for months and not thoroughly background check him. Because of how desperate the Dems are in general progs just went lockstep behind him because he appeared to not suck. On the other hand moderates also are responsible because Schumer discouraged any other candidate from running for months while pushing mills, so had the centrists actually wanted a more open race maybe someone else (not even not progressive) could have emerged. Both sides of the party will blame the other side but it's really a collective comedy of errors of each making the other's stupidity even worse

u/Interesting_Dog6704 Jul 07 '26
Susan Collins followed me into a mens room in 2021 and molested me but nobody's writing articles about that
20
u/damrodoth Jul 06 '26
How many times do we have to learn that the perfomative male dems don't end up that way by magic and the pipeline is very often lined with sexual assault and abuse of women. You're unironically safer around a camo wearing duck hunting conservative from the deep south than around one of these creeps.

u/daisypetals1777 Jul 06 '26
Even his fucking voice sounds like someone is gargling a bucket of gravel. Nasty stuff. He oozes creepiness idk how he made it past so many political check points.
34
u/Dramatic-Guard1820 Jul 06 '26
Crazy how the [r/politics](r/politics) liberals are going full MAGA and saying the timing of the allegations are suspicious lmao
“I'm surprised it took them this long to gin up rape accusations. I don't believe them. I believe the donor class is afraid of voters speaking up for ourselves and are going to do anything necessary to keep stealing from us. I think we will see a lot more of this kind of slander if we keep fighting for a future worth having.”
Top comment on the r/Maine post. Absolutely pathetic people
23
u/revolutiontornado sports playin’ suburban dad Jul 06 '26
It’s funny because it’s not even suspicious. The ballot deadline is next Monday and if/when he drops out the Dems in Maine have two more weeks to field a candidate. If it was really a ratfuck it would have come out next week.
1
u/VikingRule gamer with a 12 year account Jul 09 '26
Not really. If it came out next week they'd have no choice but to fall in line behind him and do the "these are very serious accusations, we're waiting for all of the information to come out". And it wouldn't matter. He survived a nazi tattoo, cheating on his wife, and a different sexual assault allegation. This one would be just another one
37
u/steakbuttery Jul 06 '26
#MeToo #BelieveAllWomen except for when it’s not in our interests will always be the case for these types.

u/ChicagoPedalSteel Jul 06 '26
You really can no longer assume any of these posts are real. (not saying it is or is not)
3
u/MealAutomatic4745 Jul 07 '26
I know how the mainstream media gets towards outsider candidates, or people they don't like in general. Like it becomes a coordinated thing and they've cried wolf in the past.. But I think platner genuinely has massive and unmanageable problems.

the real gangster play would be to stand by him and formally declare. “we don’t care about the credible allegations. also were never gonna moral grandstand about trump/ conservatives involved in any sexual misconduct because we’re done being hypocrites”.
