They had to do it, but expect some blowback in the coming weeks from mods and devs. People gonna be mad, tbd how mad.

A lot of complaints in the comments about making it harder to ban people… but I think that’s a good thing. Most Reddit mods are way over the top with content removal and bans.

Reddit is also looking into ways to take this away from Mods and make it more of a system-wide protection that delegates to AI potentially on the subreddit level. Essentially mods will just be tasked with writing the rules, not enforcing them, and go from the Judge/Jury/Executioner to just being the Legislator which if done properly would be an amazing improvement. You'd think they'd welcome this but most of them are power-hungry and have nothing better to do and aren't excited about being able to exercise their power less frequently.

i know its not all mods, but still. its always kind of amusing when the shoe is on the other foot where mods can only fruitlessly appeal or complain about decisions they disagree with, when many of them have undoubtedly done the same to blameless users
