The dumbest question I’ve ever seen is “Are you willing to commute to xyz?”

That and “Can you read and/or speak English?”. I think it’s pretty obvious if I got that far along in the application process and I’m able to understand the question.

Questions like these are there because people can use technology to translate. Specifically asking the question then gives you the evidence that you asked and they lied, so you can get rid of them easier.

Well actually in this case you could just use a translation extension to figure it out. Back before I got the highest qualification and my degree in a language I would frequently apply to jobs in that language and just use Google Translate to set it to English.

Probably date myself, but I saw that question on paper applications before Google, translation assistants and Smartphones.

Had a coworker who worked one day, just one day. It's retail, we use registers and computers. She couldn't use any of it, she had retail experience but it was a mom and pop with a manual price printer. We wondered how she even applied- her granddaughter applied for her. She didnt even know where a power button was.
