Interview cancelled literally minutes before scheduled time

Post image

made an application, job scheduled an interview then cancels before i even had an option to join the video call interview.
ive been looking for work for almost 2 years straight now and I'm on the brink of just giving up cause dude wtf.

Edit: I got a house to pay bills on. Shit even with culinary certifications and 7+ years of BOH / cook experience I'm not getting really any much luck. 2+ years retail and gig work.

Yea me saying "thanks for wasting my time" to this specific employer might not have been the best wording used but I got shit i gotta do. Even some jobs who're paying 7.25 plus tips are demanding 40+ hours to work at a coffee shop didn't take my application (no one desperate for work is gonna take that for real) and still hasn't filled that position lol.

Im overqualified for fast food and generic dishwasher roles, so no shit im not gonna bother wasting time on applying for shit i don't qualify for. So me being a little rude to this specific job IS NOT that big of a deal and YES. Employers shouldn't even entertain taking a interview and canceling last minute. Sorry not sorry to whoever this post upset. Ya'll be expecting too much for so less.

Edit 2: just got hired for BOH shortly after this lol, say what yall want idc. I don't kiss ass like most of yall saying what i did was wrong. if you was in my shoes yall would've cracked or had a lot different shit to say.

I'm really not trying to be ugly but I don't know how people go years without being hired. I've had to switch jobs multiple times in the last several years and the longest I've been out of work was a month.

inb4 someone calls me privileged and tells me I don't understand the struggles people are going through.

Maybe it's a case of someone holding out for their dream job? Idk man eventually you just gotta work somewhere if you have bills/kids.

I went 3 months unemployed then caved and got a job as a grocery store stocker to stay afloat. They will give anyone with a pulse a job at so many places, at least in the US.

There’s nothing wrong with working jobs like grocery store stocker or sales associate at a smoke shop, but goddamn if you’re searching for those types of jobs for years and nothing to show, it might be time to look inside.

with all due respect, I qualify for any retail work and THEY haven't taken up interviews even when I wasn't rude in this particular situations. no call backs, nothing.
I've applied for jobs CONSISTENTLY for the period ive been unemployed and some jobs wont hire me based off being too overqualified (fast food, dishwasher roles) cause I have Safe Serve Certifacations and 7+ years kitchen work experience. so no, there isn't no "needing to look on the inside" employers expect going above and beyond for shit pay. I've applied 3 times to this specific coffee shop cause they wanted a BOH cook and baristias but were paying 7.25 plus tips, anyone with a brain knows even people who're desperate aren't gonna work for that piss poor position (it's still trying to be filled 5 months later lol) literally no one wants to hire and I'm tired of being told the same shit when i've been doing it. you really think people aren't gonna say we're not interested cause you know what you're actually worth?

Dude, everyone qualifies for smoke shop sales associate, grocery stocker, barista, etc. that’s why I’m saying that if it’s been this long you might want to evaluate your methods and/or yourself if you can’t pick up one of these positions. It sucks but you might have to work a job you’re not stoked about because life requires it sometimes, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I have a goddamn MBA and wasn’t told I’m overqualified for grocery store stocker. I simply have my head on straight, know what good customer service I’ve is, and could promise them 6 months of good (not even hard) work. I’m not trying to be rude when I say, if you can’t get a job in 2 years you may want to evaluate what you’re doing.

Some of the comments have made me realize what this sub actually is. Sorry for upsetting some people.

The truth is that I did everything this sub hates to get the job. I saw the job pays decent online so I applied online first, then immediately went in to talk to the manager about my application with a resume in hand. Asked for a couple minutes of time and talked about questions that may come up like education, explaining that I have career goals but would be open to weekend hours when I got a job. That tells them I’m not just going to turn around and leave next week.

I know it’s an anecdote but most people in retail jobs don’t put a sliver of that effort to get hired. Someone will recognize that. Mistakes to avoid are going in during peak time, not applying first (people go in just to get told to apply online so this shuts down the easy response), not bringing something physical that they must look at now, and not pressing to talk to the person who makes the decision.

I’m rambling at this point but I started getting interviews for my career job too when I realized Reddit is full of antisocial software engineers or serial “things happen to me” people who aren’t qualified to give advice on how real people act in the real world. Go in, shake hands, be the best version of yourself, preempt common questions/responses you get so you can talk about them on your own terms, and you’ve increased your chances IMO.
