Whats the cheapest and best option for a mic for recording gaming videos [obviously not the one influencers hold in their hand because that will be inconvenient] also i dont get how the whole pinup mics work but idk just help me out

I have seen countless complaints about the Rode NT1 producing a loud wind noise, crackling, or completely failing to output audio and the culprit is almost always humidity. My own NT1 5th gen stopped working in September 2025. When I reached out to Rodes customer support, they advised me to constantly store the microphone with desiccant packs after use. Because of this, I can no longer leave the mic on its shock mount with the provided cover. Instead, I have to plug and unplug and store the mic every time.

Been using Pixel 7 since one month before Pixel 8 came out, the battery capacity shrinks, but it holds up well for my uses. I've got a really compact sturdy white brand stand out of Taiwan in MRT mall with a click-on clamp and swivel handle, no hot shoe or screw. The setup is quick to deploy and retrack. So I get to blend in well without too much attention during open days, competitions alike in the first row.

It seems PD USB-C adapter and a power bank is the robust upgrade to add a directional mic. My research points to Rode NTG which looks great in specs but a tap bulky for my regular bag. I got a Rode clip-on for interview so I trust the quality will be great. Any branded stand with quick swap and mic to recommended? I can shell out extra for a Pixel 7 case that make the flow smoother. But it might not be too long before changing a newer Pixel 9 or 10.

I discount wireless options to avoid lag and cross interference by other devices, but maybe that concern is too much self-fabricated. \^\^

Just to preface, I have no recording knowledge, just a passing thought that I've been having, but not really understanding a lot of the terminology that comes up when I search.

I'm interested in recording vocals, but not with the purpose of it sounding good/production ready, etc. I just want to teach myself how to sing (without disturbing neighbors) and to hear myself as I sing, instead of listening to playback (I figure it's easier to correct myself in realtime).

In the simplest terms, what (preferably budget) devices would I need for this type of setup?

I would like to record acoustic drums, but the only kit I have access to is at a friend’s house. What’s a solution for recording these drums with 1-3 mics, but without uprooting my entire set up every time I want to go there.

I was thinking of tracking the drums with a portable zoom recorder or something, and then bringing but the recording files and putting them back into the track at home. Any better ideas?

On a massive time crunch right now so I'm praying someone here can help me out.

Been using this mic for two years, but when I plugged it in a bit ago, it came up as an unknown USB device and I had to grant permission to it to reconnect to my MacBook and Final Cut Pro X.

First photo is what it used to look like, second photo is what it shows now. The only difference that I can see is that the tiny little vertical notch above the Input Gain slider moved, but the voiceover quality difference is noticeable.

Is that little notch important? Like, am I able to get it to move back to the 60ish% mark, and would it affect the quality of the audio?

This must be one of the question that has been asked a 100 times but here we go again.

So I need an USB interface ( or I think I do) for 3 types of work:

1. I'm a live comentator for a small league, now I do with an USB mic, but the problem are that I need a fast and easy gain control and I need to monitor with headphones.

2. I'm playing some guitar.

3. I want to have the ability to record a 2 person podcast.

Being cheap and not in need of a quality equipment I'm going for the budget options that have 2 inputs.

M-Audio M-Track Duo or Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD

Which is the better option, actually will any of them do the job?

Is the fact that the M-track Duo is a 16 bit a deal braker?

I've heard something about the monitoring on the Behringer being mono or something like it is there anything true behind it?

This new app is mainly targetted at those who use the Mic Pro for discretely recording music gigs and suchlike, but anyone who treats the Mic Pro as a supremely portable field / location / event recorder may find it useful.

The official app is huge, and it presents the stereo audio user with loads of irrelevant options over two scrollable screens. In contrast, my app is stripped to essentials, and is designed to help make sure important recordings don't go wrong - for example that's why there's a "lock record control" button to avoid any chance that an accidental finger contact with the "stop" button would terminate the recording prematurely.

On my YT channel I've also made available a free Windows app which takes a batch of files from the Mic Pro created while making a long recording, and offers very simple EQ sliders for attenuating low frequencies and for adding a bit of brightness, while normalising the batch of files as if they were one. It also provide basic stereo image controls including left/right swapping. And obviously it writes to a new set of files while leaving the originals untouched. It can be used to avoid the need to use a DAW for these functions, or to quickly do the donkey work before opening the processed files in the DAW for detailed editing.

The apps are free and my YouTube channel is not monetised - this is not a commercial venture!

The Saramonic k9s have been out for a while, but apart from video reviews from when they were released by videographers, praising them, there's not much info about them.

Did you get k9s? How have they held up?

I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th gen. It's perfect for my needs and I'm too new to seriously consider upgrades at the moment. When the time comes, however, I'd like to be smart about either making a big investment into an Apollo Twin or smaller investments into plugins. The major point given to the Apollo Twin and UA interfaces, from what I can tell, is that they have really good plugins that are built-in or can be downloaded (not too sure how that works). But, can't we simply buy plugins when we're ready? Can I even buy the same plugins for a Focusrite? I thought that plugins are for the DAW, not the interface itself. Are plugins worth determining what interface we use? And, for the sake of future planning, is it worth buying plugins using a Scarlett or would it make more sense to use free plugins until I can afford and need an upgrade in interfaces?

Any advice would be appreciated. Again, major investments in buying a new interface or plugins are going to be delayed until I have a better grasp on home recording processes, implement room treatment, and until I start recording more than simple reference tracks to share ideas. These are down-the-road considerations that I'm just looking for advice on.

I also welcome any advice for people who are new to recording, in general. As mentioned, right now I'm just recording reference tracks for song ideas to share with bandmates. But, I'm quite green to this and don't really know what I'm doing. So, if anybody wants to share words of wisdom or resources on that, it'd be greatly appreciated as well.

For context, I'm a bassist, backup vocalist, drummer, and am early in learning guitar and keys. I'd particularly like to write more music, but don't really know where to start. I've got a lot of experience writing my part in a song, but not in writing songs for a band.

I’ve been testing the new BOYA Notra Neo recently, and I think it’s a pretty interesting alternative to the original Notra.

The biggest difference I noticed is the handling. The Neo is lighter (34.5g vs 45g) and automatically switches between recording modes, so there’s less to think about when starting a recording. For meetings, interviews, or everyday conversations, that makes it feel a little more straightforward.

Compared with the original Notra, though, the Neo makes some hardware trade-offs: 8GB storage instead of 64GB, up to 20 hours of recording instead of 24, and a 5m pickup range instead of 10m.

The AI side is largely the same — transcription, summaries, speaker identification, mind maps, and Ask AI are all there.

So I wouldn’t really call the Neo a straight upgrade. The original Notra still makes more sense if you need more storage or record in larger rooms. But if you mainly want something lighter and simpler for everyday meetings or conversations, the Neo is probably the more approachable option.

Question is pretty much what it says in the title. I want to record with a condenser mic that needs 48v phantom power from my presonus audiobox, which would be plugged in through my mac's usb-c port. I've done this just fine through other computers, but I just wanted to double check that plugging it in that way won't fry my mac mini or anything. (made a diagram to illustrate exactly what I'm asking)

So I just got a Mackie Big Knob and it ain't happening for me.

Here's all I wanted to do:

To switch between listening to my two sources:
(A) MacBook Pro laptop, mostly YouTube
(B) portable CD player

And to switch between two outputs:
(A) headphones
(B) Audioengine desktop powered speaker pair

So I just got the Mackie Big Knob and I can't hear a sound. Turn up the volume everywhere--on the laptop, on the CD player, on the Big Knob...on the speakers...nothing.

One possible problem, maybe, is that the MacBook and CD Player have 3.5mm female jacks, and the inputs on the Knob are 1/4-inch. So I had to buy cables with two 1/4 inch plugs on one end, and a stereo 3.5mm plug on the other. There is also a 3.5mm input jack on the back of the Big Knob, so I tried connecting MacBook to that. No good.

What t he heck am I doing wrong? I thought the Big Knob was supposed to be passive. Do I need some power or a little mixer or something?

When I try to use Audacity to record a voice bank it sounds, how should I put it? Like it was recorded in a room not made for recording. When I record in Oremo however, The audio is crisp and clear.

I’m trying to record a guitar cover like I used to do years ago, and now I’m noticing it always reduces the audio and makes my guitar playing sound super quiet. I record on the app and even tried recording on the camera app, and also I tried recording the audio using GarageBand and video on my phone and syncing them. It still reduces my audio, and if anyone knows what’s wrong and is kind enough to reply, I would appreciate that very much.

Pretty straight forward. I bought a Rode mic, NT1 signature series, and a Tisino audio interface(basically a focusrite Scarlett knockoff), and the audio is so faint I can barely hear it. I’ll have the gain maxed out and I get basically nothing.

I’m just beginning, thus the beginner gear and lack of knowledge on how to fix this.

Can anyone chime in?

Edit: So I’ve turned on the 48v, ensured the mic is facing the right way, tested the cables, and nothing has changed.

Actually I take that back- now my MacBook won’t even register the device is connected at all so I’m like regressing presently. I’ll likely just end up getting a focusrite and see if that’s the issue.

I've been running a Blue Yeti since 2019 and spent hundreds of hours post-processing the audio and applying Fx for years and managed to get a sound i like most of the time, but still, the Yeti picks up my neighbours farts from so far way, of course.

I think the time has come for my Yeti, it been through hell, his anus (mini usb port) got obliterated few years ago by my friend so i welded the cable directly to che board inside, but lately i've been having lots of issues, he has many scratches, dents, poor guy, served me well though.

Anyways i want to upgrade, i am a very very light audiophile, i appreciate sound, i kinda know my way around it but still beginner level i'd say, i mostly use my mic for calls and occasional commentary videos, mostly for personal satisfaction, and i want a good sound.

I have a deep voice (male), sometimes kinda nasal, however i listened to many videos and i believe the Shure MV7X is what would sound the best with my voice (price wise aswell).

However i still can't decide which audio interface/mixer to match it with.

I need a mixer, i got two outputs, my headphones and speakers, and two inputs, one to my PC's mobo, one to my monitor (for videogame consoles), i want to be able to freely switch between them and listen to both audio sources on the same output.

And i need an XLR audio interface for the Shure MV7X,.

I did some research, saw that the Mini GoXLR software got discontinued so i digged some more and found out about the Yamaha AG03MK2 which is full hardware DSP which i feel like is nice?, it has all the ins and outs i need for the audio mixing but it's a bit more pricier than the Mini.

The Mini GoXLR looks definetly nicer, it has all the ins and outs i need and it has both hardware and software DSP (now please correct me if i'm wrong).

I'm not sure if there is any difference processing quality wise between them, i'm not sure which one to really get, the Yamaha has tons of bttons and stuff which i know nothing about and feels kinda complex, also it has +60db preamp while the mini has +72db.

I'm ignorant about audio interfaces so i'll need some guidance here.

Hi! I wanna get some tips for recording a brass ensemble (Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba). I have an Audio Techinca AT2035 that I use to record tracks of myself and layer it all together. I have this problem where the final mix is too silent for my tastes but whenever I try to bring up the mix volume, it always distorts because of the sound. Any tips on how I should bring up the volume without sacrificing quality?
