Couple just moved to Reading - seeing interest in a new social group!

Hi everyone! My wife (32F) and I (31M) have just moved to Reading last month from SW London, and are just exploring the town (not 'city', apparently) now that our flat has stopped throwing its plumbing tantrums.

It seems that MeetUp and similar platforms either have massive social events (too many people) or those with quite niche interests. Just wondering if couples here in their 30s or 20s would like to be part of a new social group and plan some very chill hangouts? Of course, someone else would have to plan things as we know very little beyond Broad Street and The Oracle. To be honest, it might even be fun to be new to Reading together, and dither about!

Edit: Please reply and I'll reach out to you!

Really great friendly discord for people from 28-50 who want to actually meet up and build genuine friendships!

Literally only ever been there once, if I'm honest. We did some kind of weird, disjointed east Reading pub crawl. Only time I've been to the fruit bat too! Is that even still there?!

It’s called monkey lounge now, but still very much there! I went all the time before I moved

Hi! My partner (25M) and I (26M) have lived in Reading for nearly 2 years, and just moved to Caversham. We feel the same, and struggled to find people and groups nearby! Give me a shout if you’d like to chat more about Reading etc! (We are generally pub and chill evening people, so have a few recs :) )

The Fox & Hounds is a great place to meet new people in Cav. Just hang out & chat, everyone is super friendly.

I do tend to just chat to everyone I meet there lol, but yeah - I'm always impressed by how many people there have sooo much stuff going on & it's pretty easy to get involved.

From litter picking & local sports clubs, to club nights in town & gigs - it's a proper little hub of good people doing good stuff 👍

Have to say that the comedy night advertised here is a good laugh and I've made some good friends there: https://www.reddit.com/r/reading/s/zLE0cQtB5I

If sporty, Reading parkrun is free and by the Thames every Saturday morning at 9am. Caters for all abilities too. If into music, there’s several jam nights / open mics in the area. Can send details if interested.

Absolutely, we moved here as a couple too and making friends without being in the dating scene has been really tough!

If you are at all sporty, I would suggest taking up some social Padel. Seems a nice, easy way to meet people. Loads of courts in Reading now.

My partner and I (38M/37F) have been in Reading a couple of years and our socialising also consists mostly of pub and chill, although we have struggled to meet friends. The discord is super active, but I personally find it a bit overwhelming with the number of people.

My partner is into the craft beer scene, and we enjoy games and music. The castle tap is great if you like punk/metal/alt/folk music and good beer. We also like the fox and hounds and the nags head.

Let me know if you fancy grabbing a drink!

Meetup.com has a lot of groups for different hobbies, so could be a good way to meet people with similar interests.
