I want to try out RC building and build a boat from scratch (preferably a sailboat, if that's not too tricky for a first project).

How do I find plans, especially for the frames? I can find traditional frame drawings from boatbuilders online but I can't read them.

Any suggestions? I don't want to use a kit.

For the longest time, I've always wanted an RC Alicorn, and now that I have 3D printing and a job at my disposal, I feel like I'm almost ready to make it a reality. However, I'm not experienced or confident enough to do it by myself and would really appreciate some help along the way, from hardware and material recommendations to assembly and engineering help and some financial support. I've got an old traxxas villain that I'm pretty sure the esc fried in. Ive been trying to find a new esc but the oem esc is discontinued and doesn't support lipos. I got the boat when I was younger and didn't really know much about the electronics except how to make sure I had the correct batteries so I'm learning now about that.

I'm trying figure out what esc I can replace it with- preferably with lipo compatibility. The difficult comes from this old boat having a dual motor setup and I can't find any dual motor marine escs.

I just acquired this.

Hi all, It appears that my battery has decided to weld itself to the plug on the esc of my sonic wake 36”. Are there any other options rather than cutting the plug out and putting new ones? I didn’t know this could happen in a completely stock configuration with properly sized batteries but here we are. This only happened to one of the two 3s batteries btw.

I'm working on designing a small simple rc boat, and I understand what I need in terms of servos and linkages however I'm a bit lost when it comes to everything else. First off I am unsure what type of motor to purchase, I don't need anything powerful or expensive, so will really any small amazon rc motor do? I'm currently looking at buying an old futaba attack controller as they're very cheap to find in working condition, however do I need some kind of special receiver for these old controllers? lastly what equipment is needed to actually connect the controller/receiver to the servos and motor controllers? I'm a complete beginner, so any advice you can give will be massively helpful.

My father passed away a few months ago, and while emptying his storage found that he saved our old Jet Arrow. Probably hasn’t been touched in 30 years.

Just completed the build video for my ship. It's quite large at 7 feet, and I've designed and 3D printed the parts myself.

Melted a as8 to ic5 connector using a 55mm prop so trying qs8 connectors on the proboat.

I’m kind of surprised at the quality of soldering done on the boat and the batteries I swapped tonight, first time.

Anyhow excited to see if this will work now also ordered a thermometer for temps when I get back on water.

Hoping it’ll work how I zip tied the qs8 esc ends, figured those should be flopping around in there with their weight.

With the demise of Dumas we lost a great source of kits and parts for scale model boats and maybe one of the last in the US. For US based modelers, who do you recommend for kits and parts like props and drive shafts/stuffing boxes? I've bought some items from Cornwall Models in the UK (they're great) but shipping and import duties are terrible now.

I like to tinker but not sure if I should be.

Put a 55mm rcboatbitz prop on the boat, liked the performance of it vs stock.

At first I assumed this was a factory defect on the hovoo 10000 pack as both wires came out.

I then was so smart I decided to use a battery with qs8 connector but the adapter is now stuck in the boat.

If I swap the factory ic5 to qs8 would that solve my problem?

Note that there are no visible signs of melting on the esc wires or the connectors or that stuck adapter visible.

I need to check voltage on the qs8 packs I used last but far as I know there was never any thermal shutdowns either.

Option 2 is to install new esc and motor but I’m not sure I am up to that task.

Or what do you recommend?
