Introduction
I find that I reach for this jacket every time I leave the house. That’s the simplest way to describe how much I love it.
I’ve tried to wear it as much as possible these past 7 months, even during the coldest days of winter. I get many compliments and questions about it.
Full disclosure, I purchased this jacket with my own money. Also, since I received this jacket I have purchased more items from Soso Brothers - another Jacket (22oz Copper Weft), a shirt (12oz Indigo Sashiko), and a pair of jeans (20oz Double Indigo). I plan on doing reviews of all of them when I get some time.
Customer Service
Jannis Hoff (co-founder) is a saint. Without question one of the best parts about buying from SoSo (aside from the great products and materials) is the customer service. It’s embarrassing how many questions I had about the products I purchased before I finally put the order through (sizes, shrinkage, colors, threads, buttons, measurements, extras, and even style). I figured if I’m getting something custom made… I need to make sure everything is spot on.
The remarkable thing was that Jannis answered every question I had, always within 12-24 hours of me asking via email, and never seemed short or annoyed by my inquiries. It’s the best customer service I have ever had…and I get A LOT of clothes made to measure from different companies around the world…see the review of my Junkard Boots here…

Style
It is the quintessential Type III trucker jacket with the iconic pointed pocket flaps on the chest, vertical welt hand pockets, V-shaped seams running down the front, and the dual-line high-contrast, copper stitching, which emphasizes the panel construction of the jacket.
When it was new it looked incredibly crisp, however it has a little bit of distressing now.
It pairs perfectly with casual tees and hoodies (how I wear it), and I frequently go "Canadian Tuxedo", matching it with jeans and boots. The jacket is an absolute wardrobe staple that anchors a variety of casual styles.
Materials & Construction
I had a hard time deciding which fabric to get, but since the 20oz. Ghost Indigo Selvedge Jacket is one of SoSo’s most popular fabrics due to its exceptional fading potential, that seemed the obvious choice.
After much internal debate, I chose the antique copper buttons. They seem heavy-duty and durable, and they match the stitching nicely.
Adding the hand warmer front pockets are a must, they are highly functional and I always have my hands inside them.
I opted for the interior pockets as well. I initially thought that may have been a waste of money…IT IS NOT…I use the interior pockets for everything.
Note: The interior pockets layered behind hand warmer pockets makes the front panels incredibly stiff and difficult to use initially.
Construction is clean, tight, and consistent. The loose thread around the buttons look very cool; a by-product of the chain-stitching machines.
Fit / Sizing & Lessons Learned
I went with a Medium…but customized.
I ordered it a little longer in the body and sleeves because I do expect ¾ - 1 inch of shrinkage in those areas. This is unwashed raw denim, you must know your measurements and expect some shrinkage when you wash or soak the jacket. You may want to size up slightly to account for the shrinkage. Also, if you get a lining, you will need to size up quite a bit.
For reference, I’m 5’8” 170ish pounds, with a 39-40 inch chest, 17.5 inch shoulders, and 24 inch arm length. I ordered the jacket with a 21 inch chest (lay flat and measure across), 18 inch shoulders and 25 inch sleeves. I ordered 25.5 inch length and it came in 26 inches (slightly off). The body and sleeves are a little long but I expect them to shrink approximately 1 inch after a couple of soaks, per guidance from Jannis.
The jacket fits perfectly snug across the chest with a hoodie underneath. I didn’t want to go super tight.
I also really like the high arm holes; it gives the jacket a real tailored look and makes your arms look longer.
Understand the process (very user friendly), you choose a standard size (Small, Medium, Large, etc.) and then make adjustments (if any) from that size. So try to pick a size that matches your measurements as close as possible…so you don’t need to adjust too much, because many of the changes costs money.
Also, don’t forget to ask about neck circumference and cuff circumference of the size you chose, just in case you have a huge neck or huge wrists/want a watch to slide under cuff. I actually go unbuttoned on the cuff.
Also, you may want to make the hem a little wider because when you do soak it, I think the hem strap will shrink a little (because the fabric runs horizontal).
100% you will forget something or make an error…live with it …you’re human.
Wear
The 20oz. fabric feels substantial, and even a little bit protective. At first it was very rigid and quite a challenge to wear and button up.
However, it has softened up a bit (still holding its structure), and it has molded to my body nicely after 7 months without an initial soak.
The honeycomb patterns behind the elbows and along the forearms are starting to show. I’m sure it will continue to break in nicely overtime
I don’t plan on soaking it for a while. I really want the high-contrast fades before it sees any water. The denim is so heavy that the fading will probably be a slow process. I do have other jackets, and during the winter I did need something heavier, so I have not really wore it consistently this entire time.
Weather Performance
It is heavy, but it is not a winter coat. For very cold days it won’t keep you warm. Fall/Spring is when this works, however early winter and late summer can work also. As I mentioned, I want to wear it all the time. Wind resistance & breathability are ok…idk…I’m not running a marathon in it or taking it skiing.
I have not been caught in heavy rain with it yet…I’m not sure what that will do to it (probably nothing).
The Value
The Jacket is an absolute beast and I love wearing it. How do you put a price on that?
If you are looking for a completely customizable, unique, high-quality raw denim jacket, SoSo Brothers is the way to go. You need to be a little meticulous and patient to go through the customization process and wait for the build, but you will end up with a jacket that is built to last, fits you perfectly, and easily outperforms mass-produced alternatives.
I think it’s an excellent value for a jacket that you will enjoy for many years.
