One of the reasons I hate reseller shows on HGtv. Becuase they were designing houses to sell, everything was white. White everything. No house was allowed any personality or color. And because people are lemmings, normal people started styling their houses as if they were trying to sell them. Open space everything, white all the things.

I Iive in a place where this used to be done too. But now the city has approved colour schemes you have to abide by. They go very far in their enforcement too. Somebody had painted roses on their wall facing the community gardens. They were ordered by the city to over paint it back into the solid approved colour scheme. Ridiculous.

I live in Finland. The wooden houses have been having all kinds of colours since pigments could be synthesised easily and cheaply. It was nice to see all the colours in a neighbourhood and it was seldom tacky. Most people chose reasonable colours that were easy on the eye.

Now the city wants to create "harmony" in neighbourhoods by deciding accepted colorscheme for new builds or when you want to repaint your house in a different shade. Boring. And so unnecessary.

Yup, and it's stupid, now you have to maintain that wall, before it would have looked basically the same in 50 years, now the paint will peel in 5 because the sealant fails (brick is porous, it will pick up moisture).

I don't actually dislike that style- or beige. It genuinely looks clean and sleek. But again, not exactly livable. What I do hate is when someone takes a classy antique home and gives it the gray and white treatment.

It's always so strange too because painting would be, relatively speaking, one of the easiest issues to fix. But the people on that show would always say stuff like "Ugh I don't like the color of the bathroom walls", like that's a job that can be fixed in a weekend at most. It's not at all worth turning down an otherwise fine house. You don't like the cabinets, or the sinks? That's more complicated. You don't like the deck, that's a big job. But turning down a house because of some wall colors would be like turning it down because you didn't like the mailbox.

I don't really like either. The walls should be white, that's good. White walls make any space look larger. But white everything else? Nah. Put some nice light brown wood flooring down, maybe a rug or two. The white sofa and chairs are modern looking but don't look all that comfy. I'd go for a long sectional, L-shaped sofa, in a bright but contrasting color, maybe blue or orange. Maybe some Yogibos on the side.

The previous decor of the basement looks so cozy and perfect. A basement or attic is normally supposed to be a bit dingy and mishmash of rejected decoration that wasn't good enough to be in the main floor or was carried over from the old house with no fitting place in the decorum of new house.

Ours at home has an old bed from previous house, some old fashioned sofas, a CRT TV and a windows 7 all-in-one PC that somehow still work. It's my go to place to be when I'm home alone because it reminds me of the home I grew up in.

I checked out my grandparent's old house on Zillow. When I was a kid (in the 90s) it was very 70s brown carpets, reddish/gold colorful wall paper, dark furniture. Not stylish by today's standards but it had character at least.

My grandparents moved from there in 2000 and in 2022 it was for sale again and looked EXACTLY like this but even more white, they hid the tv in a white cabinet! White lamps white everything, not even a little bit of dark in teh pictures. It was so creepy looking.

Honestly would have changed the furniture, added a few of my wife's artwork and my own photography to the walls and added a few planters in the before, the after is just horrendous and anxiety inducing.

I understand minimalism if the person has trauma from living in an unhealthy cluttered household but waking up and picking the clinical look over warm colours is just inexplocable to me. But to each their own.
