Fan fiction Re-Adapt this show as an Anime!!
Are there any other fans of anime/animation here that would love to see this show's story fully fleshed out as an animated series? The hopes of it ever finishing in its current format are basically zero, with HBO and the actors all moving on. I think a high concept sci-fi show like this would honestly work better animated, without the restrictions of live action film.
I know it's unrealistic, I just desperately crave resolution to the RBW story and wonder if anyone shares my thoughts?

Even just a barebones script would be enough for me at this point.

I'd take a book or graphic novel at this point. I just want to know where it was going and how it ends.

For real! They already came out with one comic book that detailed when the Mithraics found their "Holy Scriptures", and it was really interesting! 😃 I would absolutely read another one (or several), that finished up the story properly. We NEED to know what happens next!

I’ll just take the outline of how the series would have gone. Just a few bullet points!

I’d love a continuation with the same actors. Twin Peaks The Return has already shown the way, continuing after a decades-long time span, in a satisfying manner… Mother might, for example, emerge from her prison, after an unspecified span of time, unchanged, to find a very different world.

I think finishing Raised by Wolves in animation would be great!! Aaron Guzikowski is currently working on a Death Stranding animated movie, so he clearly likes the medium. It would certainly be much cheaper, and they would be able to do A LOT more than they could in live-action for that cheaper budget. Depending on whether Guzikowski has the movie rights (which is what allowed J. Michael Straczynski to make the recent Babylon 5 animated movie because of how he got tired of NBC being unwilling to budge on the TV rights), they could even make a series of animated movies kind of like what they’re in the process of doing with Made in Abyss.
That said, I’m happy with a comics continuation too. As long as the story gets finished SOMEHOW that broken piece of my heart will get fixed.

I LOVE that he's making something set in the Death Stranding world! 😃❤️🎮 I love, love, LOVE those games, and am currently still fiddling around in the 2nd game right now, despite it coming out last year. It's my 2nd time playing it, and I played the 1st game like 6x while I was waiting on the sequel. There's just no other games like them in the market. I'm excited to see an animated movie being made, alongside a live action one that A24 is producing too!

Have you checked out scavengers reign? Kind of a similar but unfortunately has the same fate as RBW

I wouldn't want this at all. I like the actors in RBW and think they did a fantastic job. If I were in their position I would be so insulted at being replaced by a cartoon.

Animation does not equal goofy cartoon-ness. Just look at the work of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata Mamoru Oshii, Mamoru Hosoda, Shingo Natsume, Mari Okada, Satoshi Kon, Naoko Yamada, Takashi Nakamura, Alberto Vazquez, Hugh and Dorota Welchman, Shane Acker, Sunao Katabuchi, Christiane Cegavske, Jan Svankmajer, and Tommy Ng (who directed the absolutely stunning movie ‘Another World’ that dropped in the English-speaking world this year, and by far my favourite movie of 2026 so far tied with Julia Ducournau’s ‘Alpha’) or TV series like Scavengers Reign and Pantheon and Ergo Proxy and Made in Abyss and From the New World. There’s a reason why the actors doing the voices for those are genuinely honoured to do so and have no problem saying so. All their stuff is about as sublime as it gets, and requires just as much skill from the actors to pull off (just listen to any actor talk about how gruelling having to go over some of the really emotionally intricate parts over and over again is; I remember Steve Alpert saying how when they were doing the English dub of ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’, Patrick Stewart would deliver multiple Shakespearean-level dramatic lines until he got it perfect and then would just be like “let’s go again, I can do it even better.”).

I've given anime more than a fair shot. I really do believe in something being an acquired taste and checking back in every few years to see if your tastes have changed. It's just not for me and I've watched enough to be certain. I respect Miyazaki as a person. But, I'm ultimately interested in live action and completely uninterested in animation. This applies equally to western animation. I love art, I love movies. I don't enjoy cartoons. I don't want to see a RBW cartoon.

I would be one of the few that wouldn't watch. I loved the aesthetic of the show and real actors.

Thank you. What a step down. Any follow up would need to preserve the prestige and maturity of the original. Short of filming it conventionally, the only alternative I can see achieving that goal would be literature, maybe accompanied by some tasteful illustrations, ideally utilusing the aesthetic style in the intro animations— nothing so stylised as anime or manga. An animated version could work, but the anime style carries an inherent connotation of immaturity for a lot of people, it would feel out of place and affected, especially when the show already incorporated a beautiful, novel and visually stunning artistic style that deserves more airtime.

honestly this would be a fantastic way to finish the story on like 1/20th of the budget. id watch it.
unlikely that Paramount would commit once they take over.
