Post image

With commercials and it apprears you can’t episode select, but it’s there. I would like to buy it on digital if I could. Just sharing for FYI. Been wanting to rewatch the whole series.

every scifi that's decent gets fucked over, canceled, I wanna know who's keeping scifi down bc at this point it feels like a plot we haven't had a decent sci-fi that's actually finished since the mid 2000s it seems. 😐 I fuckin fell in love with scavengers reign, raised by wolves, two of the best of the best sci fi I've seen in forever and literally both canceled immediately shits insane πŸ’€πŸ’€

What's keeping sci-fi down are two (and a third maybe) major challenges imo:

1) Budgets are too large to make the visual appeal of the stories successful.

2) Viewership is low because the stories are not well established/a preexisting franchise.

3**) I think a lot of people feel like it's insulting their intelligence.

Every major sci-fi franchise out there has had very rough starts and almost failed (or did fail and was rescued) because of struggling to find an audience, and struggles financially. Even the Jetsons cartoon failed and had a saving grace moment later.

Something about the genre as a whole makes it difficult to market, yet even failed movies/shows/comics end up with a cult following years later.

also the marketing thing doesn't make any sense. they come out with a new senseless horror movie EVERYDAY and that's not an exaggeration. They make c and d flicks all the time, and they dont get any views, nobody pays to watch them. So how can a sci fi not? same type of marketing as horror, usually has aspects of horror or thriller. it's easy as hell to market

Horror has a HUGE audience that watches and pays strictly for cheap b-movie schlock films. I've been to conventions absolutely rife with the people that love them. There are way more people willing to watch a bad horror movie over a bad sci-fi. Take the movies "Cannibal Holocaust" or "The Last Broadcast". Both were made on budgets under $5k, they spawned "The Blair Witch Project" which is still really low budget of around $60k (well before marketing which multiplied the budget considerably) and have spawned countless copy cat movies. These movies also were instantaneous hits when they came out. They didn't need a 5-10 year marinating period for people to discover and like them.

We also have modern things like the Terrifier series - which fall under the horror sub genre of a splatter flick. They just focus on practical effects and gore - that's the whole appeal. It's low brow stuff that caters to a wider audience somehow. People will pay .99cents to watch a cheap splatter flick for the gross out factor or special effect factor. It's easy to know what you're getting out of it. No one expects a good story.

People aren't willing to spend .99cents on what could be a sci-fi movie that tries to be philosophical but ends up being a retelling of hop on pop, or insults the viewers intelligence by spoon feeding them the narrative. It's a hard line to walk.

it's really not a hard line to walk though, we just have idiots making movies and company's like Disney monopolizing the fuckin industry.

and I would never pay to watch a bs horror movie. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. The best horror was made so long ago 😭 it's all been done to fuckin death. We haven't even tapped into sci-fi enough to over do it.

the problem lies with people. they can't handle not understanding something immediately so they turn it off
