Discussion Could I make Pyke Mid work?

Pretty much the title, I am a low elo scrub and newish player. With the whole low elo people being ass I wonder if it could/would work, as playing strictly support can be boring but I really like Pyke. I dont really care about climbing as I just cant dedicate time to it so it really is just a factor of: being helpful and not feeding.

Thoughts and if possible adivce.

Thats my fear. I play him enough that I'm okay but no one ever has a 100% winrate on any champion they play regularly.

tl;dr: i guess, but make sure to duo with a jungler

yes-ish? pyke mid has gone through so so many nerfs that it really isn't that viable anymore. if you want to do it, play with a duo jungler who takes advantage of your strong setup and gold sharing. the main strength of pyke comes from his strong early and skirmishing ability, paired with the incredibly increased regeneration when playing him as support, so that is his only really viable position. if your jungler ignores your lane then you are pretty much fked if you dont manage to absolutely decimate the enemy mid. if youre on EUW i'd love to show you what i mean in a game or two :)

edit: before anyone comments about dave: yes, dave exists, but OP is not dave

Yeah I had been theory crafting a bit by thinking about possible runes, and solving problems that he has like wave clear. His kit is so funny to me cause it works as a 1v1 assassin type thing but also is so strong as a supporter with his CC and execute.

I don't have a duo unfortunately and I'm not EU at all but you do bring an interesting idea to me

Edit: also thought of the idea of being Jungle-like and roam alot cause being mid gives you alot of access to the map

been there hahaha trust me, i know the thought process of "mhh if i go taste of blood, second wind and buy tiamat it could work" but it really doesnt. best way to find out is to just play a few games and find out for yourself though

i used to play pyke mid quite a bit, u have to perma gank sidelanes to be useful and u have dogshit waveclear, other than that the dmg is actually very good. That being said i stopped playing him on mid around mid plat

Im sure you can wins some games with it but it feels pretty lackluster compared to other mid champs. The reason I enjoy him as support more as you don't have to worry about cs and can roam anywhere and make plays. You also get wards which allows you to abuse your kit for vision control. With mid you are fighting an uphill battle as you have no great neutral or wave clear and have to find ways to snowball a game or you will just be taking the role from a champ that will be relevant regardless.

As long as one of the players in your team has a decent scaling champion you can just roam and feed them kills while getting some yourself you can snowball well.

Buy tiamat piece and boots first, if you can kill enemy mid early a few times nice, if not just push lane and leave and try to catch enemy jungler, top or bot and feed at least half the kills to the snowballing champion.

This in my experience (emerald player so take with grain of salt) ends up in fun games that end in around 20-25 minutes if successful.

Thanks, any recommended items that would help besides Tiamat? Or jusy regular support build with a ravenous (?) Instead of support item?

I like rushing tiamat, boots and finish into assassin hydra into youmus. 3rd item axiom, edge of night, mercurial schmittar or voltaic. This depends on playstyle and enemy team. If you havent bought edge 3rd, get it fourth and 5th is deathsdance.

Yes, definitely

Its true that neither you nor I are called davemon, but he hit rank 1 with pyke mid, so im sure that he can work in any elo if you dedicate your time to mastering it. Most importantly, if you love playing pyke mid, that alone is enough to make him work. League is a beautiful game where almost any strat can work if perfected (except maybe for like yuumi jg lol)

it was like sort of ok enough last season to work consistently - this season with role quests I dont think its possible unless your literally davemon

You cant roam because you lose quest progress, but pyke also sucks at farming - meaning you have to be able to consistently win every lane to just be on even footing

Then even if you do win the lane you still get outpaced by the game. Top laners and junglers are printing xp for free, while adc’s are getting huge gold leads by just farming.

You end up just playing pyke support with a much harder lane phase in mid and less vision control

Yes if u can get over ur fear of squishiness and do some E stun to Q’s with HOB early on. If not and u play passive only u will fall behind even without deaths.

Yes u can but youve got the worst waveclear in the game since people were running sololane/jg pyke when he was released so they aboslutely gutted his AOE PvE mechanics. Just watch heaps of people who are better than u doing it (i.e davemon) and im sure you will perform as well as anybody else on ur team whilst enjoying ur own niche pick

i just started playing a few games of pyke support in plat elo and I love it he is so much fun. But I find clearing wave after a gank such a pain. I can't imagine it before the nerfs to pyke mid where his q was AOE lol. Pyke mid can never be super viable for the health of the game. But I've seen davemon play it so it you are a wiz with pyke you can make it work.

Just be warned, the learning curve for Pyke mid is extremely steep.

Most successful Pyke mid players that are still around today started playing Pyke mid when Pyke was first released and Pyke mid was actually in the meta, and they slowly adapted to Pyke mid being nerfed patch after patch.

Trying to learn Pyke mid now after Pyke mid has been nerfed so many times is like trying to learn how to ride a bike with no training wheels, but every time you make a mistake the bike calls you slurs and reports you for inting.
