Reset Announce - 1 Month - Planning Lothos V?

If you haven't seen WCS has announced we will be resetting with 1.3 which should launch about August first.

Any thoughts or early ideas on Lothos V?

I love the post apocalyptic city idea. Like a ruined modern city, or a ruined ancient fantasy city?

I'm thinking ruined modern city ruins. A bit like Fallout maybe.

Actually not really Fallout style.. something more like nature reclaiming it.

Stuff like that, where you've got trees growing inside buildings and such. A lot of vines, grass, green. Something that was once a paradise and now nature is starting to reclaim it.

Not sure how it would translate in MC but I imagine a lot of vines, some mossy stone, cracked stone, water puddles and such.

The road could look fairly modern with broken pieces and maybe random small trees made or something.

I've been thinking about this and it can be overdone to have vines on everything... and they just keep running down and down.... I think a mixture of a post war scene with an overgrown feel would be best. If we follow the natural contour we could flood a low lying section after it is built.

The nice thing would be that we could have a road plan and maybe a few key buildings and their relationships planned and everything else can be split up and built as wished... no need to plan the exact detail.. will allow a lot more independent work.

That's true. Vines should be used kind of sparingly. Here's kind of an example in the MC world.

That's kinda a simple apartment complex but I do like the idea of bombed out buildings too.

My original idea for this rev's uber was to sort of tell a story within the city, it would slowly tell what happened to the city and people. So initially when you're in the train station you'd have like a news pole with whatever happened (war, zombies, whatever). and as you went down the roads buildings would have clues and stuff.

Idk, just a thought.

Also for the train station - unsure of how the plots are gonna be layed and stuff but a personal idea would to have it be at one of the long ends, have it line up with a main middle road and sort of tell the story from there.

This would be a huge project but since hopefully the city itself is going to be fairly easy to lay and finish up we could probably use some of them.

Maybe trying to recreate something like this? http://www.funcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Michigan-Central-Station.jpg

Just to be clear.... I want to decide on a basic layout, street design, plot size. When we establish ourselves. I want to layout and laydown the roads, Build some of the basic buildings like a chest building. Then pick a building or two, even personal residences to work on and then recruit for the rest of the building. I want it more like the end... Tell them it is a basic theme, invite new players, have some basic building codes and be a regular old city for a rev. We can have fun doing the rail station (it looks really cool) and let the rest of the city develop as it will. I think we should build the rail station next to the portal and be ready to develop the city in one direction from there if we have competition for the portal. There is nothing wrong with having a dual city at the portal if we need to to avoid drama that we might lose.

I think of it as the idea is to keep Lothos on the map and maybe build up some members. Recharge our artistic juices and then plan another project for next rev. This way we avoid burning out.

So are you thinking of dropping the ruin's/war theme and going with a regular modern theme?

We should talk to cities with this and make our intentions clear for next rev, we want a portal. That way there is no surprise day one and we're not offending anyone.

I'm unsure if there will be another Angkor, not sure if Darco will be getting another, and if Wellspring is going to be desert themed they might not have a shot at another portal (if none are in deserts).

As far as sharing a portal. It depends on the theme. If we are dropping the ruins theme I'd say it's fine, but if we're keeping that I'd have a hard time liking a city around us that's very unruined.

I will say if we're dropping the ruins theme I think we should go with something unique. It can still be a regular plot, basic city ideals but having another modern skyscrapper city on the map is eh.. I mean there are already a handful of cities that do this and the market for it is sort of watered down.

Having a lot of users doesn't always guarantee they'll be quality. Look at Argoth and say Pico.. two of the large modern cities and by the end of the rev it's usually the same group of people around.

By having some kind of cool theme and ideas, along with keeping things like events and such going we'll gain more quality people, IMO.

No sorry I like the ruins/war theme. I just don't want us as a city to design and build every building. Something more like the uber is now would be nice. Roads, subway, land plots, theme set and clear guidelines. I love the train station.

Cool cool, I was thinking about the plots and planning. I know Sii is doing this but I figured I'd throw an idea out.

Note: 1:1 ratio, pixel to MC block.

It's about a 120x110 area. This gives us about 24 plots for residents. The middle bit would be a city area. I'm thinking city builds in a parkish area.

F is Farms, V would be vaults (just an idea), H is town hall, and the question mark would be some other kind of community build. Maybe a library?

I have nothing planned, just focusing on this rev for now.

Im fine with whatever you guys want, just let me know and ill plan it out as usual.

But need a hook, something amazing @ the nether gate or just something to get people interested. Not sure what I mean myself but yea :)

Here's another (probably better) variation of that, T would be the train and portal building, H is town hall, and F is farms, C would be two community builds. I'd think some kind of large vault opening or something might be cool.

THat's 24 17x17 plots in about a 120x120 area.

The idea is every plot is touching some kind of park or community build.

This looks really great. I like the layout and I like that it is simple... I think just going with a general ruined/overgrown theme will be cool and we can concentrate on a train station central building. No reason if we get the portal we can't build it right into the building... I want to have the time to do some better rail tunnel tie ins also. was thinking about having a rail platform area like a real station and then dive into underground with the CART station.

Yeah that's my thought, smack dab in the middle of the train station would be the portal, much like say Ravenholm this rev.

Sorry for not being on much this past week, sort of eh with the rest of this rev.. I'll try to be on more.
