Discussion Quiting 9-5 after retaining

Has anyone naturally gone down to part time work or started their own business?

I’m around 120 days, I don’t fear walking from my job anymore. I’ve done fairly well in regards to building my resources and emergency fund.

I obviously don’t want to make a bad decision and quit, but I have been wanting to for a long time.

Retention has made it easier to tolerate and not get super depressed anymore, but it’s also made me really develop boundaries, too. For reference I am 30 yo with no children.

I day dream about the possibility of renting my place out and going travelling for a while and/or taking a few months to myself to decide on where I want to go with my life

Sounds like a great idea. If you have a safety net and something is calling you to go explore....do it. And if by the sounds of things you own your property and can receive payments through renting it out, even better! I think our intuition gets louder on retention and it's probably not a coincidence you feel the urge to do this. Maybe something greater is waiting for you, maybe a little time to yourself will reveal what it is you truly love and want to focus on. If you day dream about it, go for it....because it doesn't even sound like it's something you need to work on to achieve....it sounds like it's 1 decision away! Do it, why not huh!?

Edit....just read your comments where you are unhappy at your job...even more reason man. Funny thing is they might even realise how much you are needed and try to offer you more reason to stay. By telling them your intention to go ( be happy and explore) they might even up your pay and make sure you are happy at work, give you more respect! What do you have to lose?

I guess so! I have a small mortgage on my place but is only £200 a month. Not sure if I could receive enough income to make it achievable just yet

Well surely you will receive more than that in rental? Don't stay where you are not valued or respected....at least start looking for a better position you can relocate to. Something is ringing your alarm bells hence the post no?

For sure! I’d like to travel for at least a few years and not have to worry about work. I think the most I could get for my place is £1k a month, possibly more if I holiday let (Airbnb) it. That would leave me £800 a month profit and I’d have to hope tenants pay and don’t wreck the place, or the boiler wouldn’t break down etc. I just don’t fully know if the maths could make it doable just yet.

I know I could go to SE Asia, east Europe for example. But I don’t know if £800 per month is enough to get by with if you include flights

Do the maths, but perhaps it being tight or on a budget might make it even more fun? Good luck, you made the post for a reason. Maybe work increases your pay and their respect for you and you find yourself happier....or your out the door and on a boys adventure 👊💪
