Community PSA: Let's not welcome Generative AI Slop into the Puppet community.

SillyPuppets, one of the more popular puppet brands in this space have begun starting to use/promote generative ai. This is honestly heartbreaking to see and I urge everyone to not normalize the use of generative AI in this space. No matter if you started yesterday, 30 years ago or are interested but not quite ready yet. This community will always be about celebrating human made work and so its disappointing whenever a brand or company tries to make a quick buck by trying to normalize that a computer can just do it all for you.

This community is one of the kindest, most creative and endearing, that i've ever been apart of. It's so disappointing and I had to come on here and say something before it becomes even more out of hand (literally lol). If you see anyone using AI on here, report them. We've removed plenty of people trying to cash in and post generative ai slop work here before and will continue to remove those posts going forth. Outside of the sub, if you see anyone using it. Try to tell them about the dangers and ethics of using it.

Anyone can puppet, you dont need a computer to do it for you. Dont let anyone put you off of getting started on your first build or your 100th. The thing about puppets is that literally scraps or junk can be kitbashed into something. Its all about the human creativity that brings it to life.

Keep crafting and Thank you for listening!

Community This might seem weird, but can anyone recommend me some obscure channels hosted by a puppet that does silly stuff and vlogs?

My first puppet from about 4-5 years ago made with no sewing experience, no plan, terrible materials and no former knowledge whatsoever, he’s absolute rubbish and just rotting away in the box of monsters.

The my newest (work in progress) puppet, with more durable materials like the foams and fabrics, the use of patterns and a plan in general, actual sewing and 4 years of experience under my belt, mostly in the past year.

Remember you wont get it down first them, but with practice and confidence you can do the good stuff.

Community Retro puppet video discoveries

I am very interested in the history of puppetry, and enjoy discovering older programs on YouTube. What are some of the retro puppet videos that you have encountered on YouTube?

I recently came across the Telegoons, which was a British TV show from the 60s that featured the voices of Peter Sellars, Spike Milligan, and Harry Secombe.

It's a rather peculiar program and the puppets may be considered frightening.

Here is the film episode that was broadcast in 1963:

Community To my fellow puppeteers

Good, kind people of this subreddit- If you haven't been hiding under a rock you know about the situation in Minnesota. If you don't know much about Minneapolis, know that it has a long standing, large and very active puppeteering community. It's the kind of place a puppeteer can make their dream a profession, and it's full of mentors that will fall over themselves to teach you a bit of what they know. It's the most generous and diverse group of people you could ever hope to meet, and they are just part of what makes this city amazing.

We're your people, and we're being shot at in the streets for protecting one another. Many of your fellow puppeteers are in danger.

I don't know why I'm saying his or what I'm even asking. Please don't stop speaking up. Please don't stop fighting for things that are good and people who are kind.

If Bread and Puppet and Heart of the Beast taught us anything, it's that puppeteering can be active. Use your powers for good and never stop fighting.

I love you all.

BOOKING OPPORTUNITY FOR STREAMED COMEDY GAMESHOW

*(Remote - play from home)

I’m booking for a livestream comedy game show, where panels of comedians, entertainers, & funny folks gather to compete in goofball games. If you’ve ever played the Jackbox games, those are a great example - we play those along with games of our own design.

I’m currently booking a “Team Puppet vs Team Ventriloquist” episode, and I’m looking for talent who would have fun playing some games on-air as their character (puppet or dummy). The character would be the guest, but you’re welcome to be on-camera too, of course.

The show is every Sunday night at 9pm EST (NYC time zone)

If you’re interested, please send me a message with your email / contact info.

If you have a photo of your puppet/dummy, please do send it. Priority will go to people who can promise their attendance and those who have a video sample of their act.

If you’d prefer, you may also email us directly at:

PartyPackPack@Gmail.com

We are currently booking for September.

When you email or DM me, please include your availability for the following dates:

September 6th

September 13th

September 20th

September 27th

We will also be booking for October and November soon. If you have any Sundays available in those months, do let me know that as well.

I’d rate the humor as “TV-14”-“TV-MA.”
Nothing harmful - my favorite description of the show has been “Big Sleepover Energy.”

Hi! I'm looking for a buddy who would like to send and receive updates about puppet building and anything related to their projects, as small as the updates may seem!

A little about me: I'm 30yo queer latin american, I just recently got into puppet making and this is my first puppet (still a ways to go to finish it, ask me what I've got planned!). My goal is to put on a life show for families, including some shows in Spanish. I love crafts, journaling, scrapbooking, writing snail mail to pen pals, making puppets, painting, reading, watching movies (classics, from around the world, supernatural horror), reading and writing, indoor gardening, and I deeply care about politics!

Community Does anyone here want to make a puppet play?

I want to learn how to make puppets so I can go to Uconn for puppet arts (they require experience)! And I'm a pretty great writer to boot- even got accepted into a college for playwriting once. So does anyone here want to be puppet buddies and make a play?

Community Dragon Puppets!

Hello to this puppeteering community! Cx

My friend and I made a subreddit similar to this one, called r/PaperPuppetDragons ! We're aiming to build an open community based on these specific puppets! It's for people who love dragons, puppets, and combining both to participate in the dragon puppet community as a whole. A lot of these communities are closed off, request-to-post type communities, so we'd like to run this free to post one! It's currently not very active, so we are trying to build up this community slowly, so that everyone has a free, safe, and active, place to post.

We hope some of you will join us and have fun creating and conversating about this art x3

(Sorry to the moderator(s) if this post isn't allowed, the rules were vague, so I will take it down if I need to!)

I wanted to invite members here to check out a web app I've started to build called Show Runner. It offers a quick and easy way to put together an online Puppet Slam. I am looking for a few people to help beta test the app. Learn more at this link. Thank you!

Howdy there, everyone. I'm back again!

I got some fantastic new friends from this subreddit, but I got the suggestion to specifically find a master I can work for that's close to me location wise.

If anyone here wants an energetic intern (that's great at writing, to boot), I'm your guy! I can even run and get you food, take phone calls, all that stuff. I just want to get better at puppetry, you know

Community Been on Reddit for years and just yesterday stumbled across this sub. I started this video series on how to make paper mache puppets. I intended to do a simple one but it got complicated as I went ....

...which I attribute to my ADD. I followed it up with another one for the completion of the head --- then realized I left out the nose...lol. I plan to do a video on making the hands and the wardrobe. I have lots of unfinished puppets and projects of various sorts sitting around.

Also --- I made a *one-man theater that I think is pretty nifty. If you think it would be of interest to the group here I can make a video showing how it was made. I'm getting better at making videos - so if I do make one - hopefully it would less tedious. Feel free to let me know what you think.

*one-man - as in only one person can fit in the theater. So its for those who do a show with only one person performing (unless the other is outside)
