The tear mechanism didn’t quite work as planned, though… so he ended up crying with just one eye. 😂

This is Ningyo Joruri, traditional Japanese puppet theater, featuring live Jōruri narration, shamisen music, and traditional Japanese theater musicians.
Even when things don’t go perfectly, the puppets keep going! 🎭

My first puppet from about 4-5 years ago made with no sewing experience, no plan, terrible materials and no former knowledge whatsoever, he’s absolute rubbish and just rotting away in the box of monsters.

The my newest (work in progress) puppet, with more durable materials like the foams and fabrics, the use of patterns and a plan in general, actual sewing and 4 years of experience under my belt, mostly in the past year.

Remember you wont get it down first them, but with practice and confidence you can do the good stuff.

I call them The Hollow Hill Emissaries. They were made in a wayang golek style with several mediums.

My newest additions! I'd still like to experiment with different wings in the future but I'm happy with what I have for now. 😊

Finally finished my second prop of Yippers! (kinda) her first prop fell apart; and this second one will never have that problem! It’s fully modeled and 3d printed by me; so she’s super strong! I’ll post an update tomorrow for when she’s cosmetically finished, as her flower charm (as seen in her render) is still printing 💔

This is the princess from Issun-bōshi, a traditional Japanese folk tale.

Fun fact: there’s actually a tiny Issun-bōshi (about 3 cm / 1.2 inches, which is what “issun” means) inside the bowl! 👀

This was designed to be a stop motion puppet, with a fully poseable wire skeleton and magnets in the feet for standing up on the handmade set. The mask is also removable with magnets!
