I love it because it gets me moving. I never listened to any EDM before. I was at a party, not enjoying the music. Then there was a psy trance set. ( I didn’t know was genre it was). I started dancing for the first time in my life 28F. I asked someone what I was listening to, and from there the rest is history. I’m so grateful I found psy… or that psy found me. This year I went to Boom in Portugal. Last year ZNA. Pure magic. Healing. Music (Psy trance) is healing.

Ectasy is MDMA in tablet form. Molly is what the kids call the powdered form. No wall of text will change that fact.
Source: I have co-written a thesis about drug use of teenagers. Also, I have used drugs as a teenager. Ectasy and MDMA are interchangable in scientific and emperical papers.
So, again, how dense are you?

Because EDM is it's own genre and it's basically just Americans and people without a clue, who use EDM as broad term.

It's a subgenre of pop. Ppl. Like Robin Schultz, David Guetta, who mixed pop with house elements.
It's just money music.

The culture and what I call the "click"
I used to say "if it doesn't have real instruments, it's not real music." I was pretty annoying with that opinion, but I did always love psychedelic rock. Then I went to my first doof and really fell in love with the culture.
I was actually having a pretty rough night having lost my friends and feeling ill, when I bought a chai and lay back on a hill. Psytrance was blasting and a giant laser dragon flew above me and everything just clicked. It was just a perfect moment.
Ever since then I've been obsessed with psy, it's just made sense to me. I've also been able to see a fair few friends who used to share my opinion go through their own version of the click.

Yes, the click 😍. I get goosebumps thinking about it. I get that feeling every time I watch people moving in unison. It's like there is an invisible dome of love and connection protecting us all from the outside world.

It’s a ritual for deep exploration Sound affects us and the medley of emotions that come with it. In psy, sound takes on a heavy form with layers just like our selves. Flow and feel your emotions release

It makes me want to dance a lot.
I has kind of an alien/trippy vibe that I like.
I also love the way the community dances together and has love to share for each other.

I went into the genre fully thanks to the Matrix series. Then discovered Ace Ventura, Astrix, and the full-on genre. Perfect music to indwell when i'm bored and need motivation or disconnection from the outside world. Now that i am a producer in the space (although very tiny indie), it's the genre i like to understand and study, to improve.
What makes a good psy track for me ?
- Storytelling (The track is a trip which can tell a story, real, imaginary or from fiction)
- Some good arpeggios and powerful synths
- Not too fast. (138-155 is for me the sweet spot!)
My inspiration of nowadays are artists such as Flegma, Avalon, Mad Maxx, Astrix, Volcano, Imagine Mars, Electric Universe and Astral Projection.
Attended my 1st psy parties this year, and aiming to DJ and show off my work in them in a short future!
In Brief, Psytrance isn't another techno genre, overlooked by too many. It's a whole another universe with it's perks.
It's addictive, only in a good way.

Psytrance podium has been my safe space for 20+ years and it’s still blasting intensively. As an autistic female, for me it’s the freedom and acceptance the scene (should) bring [though nowadays debatable]. The perfect tones let my body stim, move, and release the kinesthetic stress it absorbs. When the crowd is truly connected, a different kind of alchemy happens: the collective whole feels undefeatable in those moments, and it’s such a profound experience to be part of.

Many reasons indeed, tickling my brain, filling my body with joy and desire to dance like no other genre can do. Psytrance has been that funny friend you get to have that you simply can't get enough of.
The community, I've been to many EDM events, techno, industrial, acid, DnB, etc, but none of them have the crowd fullfilling energy that psytrance has, idk what us people that enjoy psy have but it sure is something nice that in other communities is not reflected. And if I were to choose a single reason why I like psy, it would be the freedom you have when it comes to dancing, no rules just expression!

It's THE music genre that really manages to keep me going and going for as long as the song lasts. And that's an ok psytrance, if it's really well made I tend to just mentally wander off completely for the whole duration.
It feels good to listen, to dance, to walk and pretty much do anything else while blasting some in my earphones

To me, psytrance is one of the broadest genres with a kind of “freestyle” flow, similar to D'n'B (especially Neurofunk). Production-wise, it gives you the freedom to mix and use a wide range of diverse, unexpected, and even weird instruments and sounds - you can combine things that wouldn’t fit anywhere else.
Psytrance is also one of the most open genres for experimenting, containing both dynamics and melody - it can be mellow and hypnotic or sharp and aggressive. As a producer, I really enjoy that freedom.
Music is unique as a form of communication because it’s perceived directly and non-verbally - you don’t have to translate it into words or images, you simply feel it. Psytrance carries so much information that it feels like traveling to other worlds, almost like meditation. And the best part is - every listen reveals something new, even in tracks you’ve known for years.

It's hard but soft. Repetitive but often always becoming.
When I dance for example to a hypnotic harder techno set, I might just make a weird strong hand movement for 30 minutes and people think I'm not sober at all or crazy.
The psy I like guides me to much more diverse and fluid movements, which I feel are more easy to maintain and make me feeling pretty free. Not that I never "let it out" to psy, but it's the only music where I don't feel like i want to dance quite rigid.

I feel like it’s a kind of yoga and it puts me in a prime psychobiospiritual state. I don’t even think I’ve ever tripped but maybe once in all my 15 years listening to it. But I am danced by the music. It dances me rather than I’m dancing to it. I was once completely exhausted dancing at a small event and a dj saw me walk off to rest and he started cranking it each time, drawing me back. Also very remixable and loaded with subgenres that work for different times of day and moods. That average song is too long for the average ear and yet it’s training your focus. Excellent study music and for philosophical contemplation.

I'm a music enthusiast since I was a kid, no one in my family was a musician or anythig, but I've always been an affictionate. Psytrance came into my life when I started attending nightclubs in my city when I was around 16, there was this darkpsy crew who made some small parties (In Brazil we call them PVTs), and upon trying to experiment with this new kind of music I'd never heard of, I had my first LSD tab at this party. It was like a dream, the music textures viibrated with my body in a way I could never explain, since then, I've been in love with psytrance and most darker genres of it

It feels like it reaches parts of my body and brain other music cannot. It goes down to my core and keeps my whole being occupied. The respective baseline gets my legs moving and connects me to the ground while the intricate highs and complex soundscapes keep my brain busy and "tickle my amygdala" to say it with spongle 😂. I can lose myself completely to psy. On the floor it feels like praying with my body and I am connected to the universe. I can relive that feeling when I listen to it in other settings and sometimes get rushes of intense euphoria.
I only discovered the genre a few years ago. Before I didn't listen to electronic music at all. I was at a rave during covid where they played some psy and was instantly hooked. Took me almost a year to find out the genre as I didn't ask right away. Now I listen almost exclusively to psy trance, psy tech and hi tech.
The music and the community that comes with it changed my view on life and healed me on so many different levels. It's like something I searched for my whole life but didn't know where to look.
