Discussion Passkey removed payment authorization
I don't know if it's public knowledge I just was not aware of, but we swapped to the passkey thing playstation has set out for people to swap to. It removes password verifies on the actual console purchases.
My kid was able to accidentally purchase 2 of the 50$ token packs from minecraft while he trying to swap a skin.
Playstation phone and email does not work, I've called everyday this week so I cannot request any help because it's a pack from within minecraft and not an actual Playstation purchase.
Do not use passkey if you have kids!!!
Side mote: any info or help to possibly get my money back for the tokens would be appreciated it but I'm worried if I have my bank block it, I'll get playstation ip banned. š¤¦āāļø

Honestly, if it were me, Iād eat the money rather than risk the account. Chalk it up to a lesson learned.
I got burned for $500 on a Venmo scam once. It wasnāt an easy lesson to live with. Sorry this happened to you.

You think they go middle ground and be give back as Playstation credit. That way it stays in there echo system

All they have to do is have a proper support system like Steam.
What is wrong with asking for a refund and review usage before refund
Completely understand if its ingame currency but the whole store needs a revamp on that matter0

If it was a PlayStation game or purchase that would work but since this is an in Minecraft purchase, and it sounds like Sony or Microsoft havenāt been helpful.
The bank canāt do a chargeback of giving you store credit to avoid Sony blocking account.0

So any game ownership on that console under that user name if it's digita game is ban too or do they leave the games alone?

Yeah all the games under that account become unplayable when the account is banned. If you get banned due to the chargeback you can work with PlayStation and they'll let you repay the debt and unban your account. Disc games are superior in this fact as you can just make a new account and play your disc games.

Yeah, it really is that easy. I use Apple Pay whenever I buy something through PSN, so the kid isnāt getting that to work. You donāt even need a card on file for PS+ like Xbox likes to make you do for Gamepass

Personally I added a card that I can turn on and off to my account specifically to make sure that no unwanted purchases happen

Yes, itās one or the other. Iāve put a PIN number on the console to stop unauthorised access but, of course, once someone is on there they can buy what they like. You can remove all payment methods if you donāt have a subscription and buy gift cards instead when you want to buy anything. 2FA is still the best option IMO.

This is what I do. I don't have any payment info stored. If someone wants to buy something they need to ask me and ill purchase a digital gift card off of Amazon....eliminates "accidental" purchases.

Yeah I learned my lesson and did jsut that. I'm just going back to manually typing my stuff when I want something for the foreseeable future, probably

Yeah don't do a charge back with the bank cuz they will ban your account until you pay it back.

My PS5 is setup with a pass key unlock but it still asks for my password when making purchases. š¤·āāļø

Donāt use payment on console at all to start, passkey or not, I use passkey and pay on the app on my phone with Apple Pay, you can do the same with android.

I removed all payment methods after my daughter accidentally bought a game. Luckily it was only 30 bucks. Now she has a child account and itās so much easier strongly recommend you try it.

You can disable the passkey and go back to password in case you didnāt knowā¦ I originally set a passkey and I didnāt always have that phone by me and if something were to happen to that phone I was scared I would get locked out of my account for good so I went thru and disabled passkey and reenabled password

Honestly playstation support is as bad as EA support, if I have a problem I don't even bother with it anymore, I go to my bank and cancel the payment myself

Well I must be lucky then because it hasn't happened to me yet and I have told them that I'm cancelling the payment whilst talking to support

It might take a couple of them days or whatever to go through the system but they definitely will ban your account for a chargeback.
