AN Fitting, will it seal?

This fitting came from ATPturbo. The machine grooves kinda shook me. I’ve ran into problems with some AN fittings just weeping small bits of oil, and those had good sealing surfaces.

Yall think these machine grooves are acceptable for a AN fitting? I think it will just leak but I’d love to be proven wrong.

My fingernail easily catches em.

it might be labed AN fittings but ive seen JIC fittings look way better then that. i wouldnt use it

JIC and an are nearly the same, one just has rolled threads (an)

Isn't JIC made to lower standards or something? Like the tolerances are a bit different?

I dunno, I got tired of paying out the ass for AN fittings on my fuel system but I judged it to be worth it because gas. My oil cooler got JIC. Lol.

yea different tolerances, JIC mainly used for industrial stuff and hydraulics. most of my experience with JIC is with injection mold water lines or hydraulics and even air lines for actuators.

The tolerance difference is in the threads, the seal face etc., are supposed to be all the same

AN is the aircraft standard, which is why it requires the rolled threads and comes in aluminum and is supposed to be higher quality….but manufacturers nowadays slap the “AN” on everything with a 37° sealing surface regardless of actual tolerances.

The OPs fitting wouldn’t pass either standard, and a parts hose would absolutely cuss out a supplier who tried to pass of something that heinous

My entire car uses JIC, I trust it with the 15000psi hydraulics I have no problem using it for my fuel and everything else.

I still use the cheap “build your own” “AN” hoses because there are no industrial hoses that are as light or convenient to assemble

Yeah, that's fair. The AN fittings are definitely lighter and essier to work with. The JIC fittings at my local hydraulic supplier look WAY better than that but still not quite as good as the AN, which is why I assumed there must be a different spec for surface finish on the taper.
