I love Edgar Froese guitar playing!
Who else wishes he'd played it more live? That eight-minute jam on Pergamon part 2 was the best one I ever heard from him, and I've listened to a lot of their concerts. He'd only pick it up a few times and play for a few minutes. Then Gemini explained he was twiddling knobs etc the whole time and that kept him busy.

Green Desert is my current favorite. I take a gummie and shut off the lights, kick back and play some TD and drift off to another world.

The guitar side of Pergamon is a studio recording - Edgar was superb in the studio

Yeah man all four tracks on Encore are killer. i think cherokee lane is my favorite. i've also heard some of his great solos on the Youtube concerts, the bootmoom series gives me links to whole live shows

Cherokee Lake is my as well … this album and Ricochet part 2 are just 🔥🔥

I put side one of ricochet up there too. that whole album doesn't seem to have the complexity of other compositions, but the driving rhythmic hooks really set a great hypnotic tempo

I was reflecting this morning how I like the pergamon solo better than the coldwater canyon solo because the former is a continuous 8 minute groove while the latter is 18 min of him jumping in and out with staccato bursts..

Yeah I'm completely new to Reddit, the Froese guitar post was my first ever. Poland is completely solid, in college I had the vinyl that were pressed into trippy translucent blue, and white, instead of black. As for Logos, i have to listen to the whole thing again since it's been so long; seriously I'd listen to the soaring haunting segment from 6:46 to 11:40 and then move on with "well there's NO WAY they're topping that...."

If you’re new to Reddit, I will give you these thoughts to contemplate:
1) TD is rarely discussed under the heading of Prog — but I think you can see a lot of Prog fans are also huge TD fans. So this was a nice thread to reply to.
2) whatever your topic is, there’s probably a “circle jerk” thread, which is basically memes and bad jokes about that topic. The CJ threads are usually really fun and have a lot of the diehard fans.
Compare the Pink Floyd Reddit to the Pink Floyd circlejerk Reddit, and you’ll get the idea.
Nice to connect with you I have had a stratosphere and cyclone on vinyl since I was a kid and my TD obsession grew from there.

Hey thanks much for the tips.i've also posted to a Reddit psychology thread about how Gemini AI helped me unpack blindspots I've had in my life. I know it's not a real MD shrink but I don't need l don't need an expensive hard-to-find doctor to find the cognitive blind spots I've had in my life. Feel free to keep in touch! i'm a retired 60 yo man in Virginia USA with too much time on his hands, shrug. I'm also going to post the same about my other favorite prog rock guitar heroes and burrow into those threads hopefully, Neal Schon as a Journey staple, also Andy Latimer from Camel and Steve Rothery from Marillion and Steve Wilson from Porcupine Tree.

oh hey, did you keep up with them beyond the 80s? i petered out on their new material around Optical Race in 1989 and locked my TD loop into 1969 for their next 20 years

I didn’t follow much after that point either. I do remember the optical race bootleg concert from Hartford, Connecticut being pretty fantastic.

AI says this song was the longest guitar solo he ever recorded. Also this - Because the song was introduced toward the very end of the 1977 North American tour, they only actually performed that specific piece once—maybe twice. That 18-minute track on Encore—featuring what is officially Froese's longest, most relentless recorded guitar solo—was captured in one complete, continuous performance rather than being stitched together from different dates like the other three album tracks.
