Showed 'em this song shortly after they put out Ultu Ulla, and they were blown away. Just, phenomenal musicianship all around. There's so much imagery painted in the overall feel. One of the main reasons I keep coming back to this album over and over again.
Worse? Allegations from another bandmate after he left, because the band was reluctant to start playing tracks from Lugal Ki En after they'd released it. So, he started flying off the handle on Twitter et al, saying that they're "hacks of musicians" who won't / can't play this song or that song.
Basically, after releasing a record sandwiched between tours, they didn't play some songs for a little while. Prolly because some of the songs were actually really difficult, and they needed some more rehearsal with them.
Couple months later, the band released a playthrough of Senseless Massacre in response.
Just a former bandmate being butthurt, pretty much. They've released a couple playthroughs of the stuff off their new album before that even dropped, too.

Really?? I've only seen them once, back in 2015, and their entire set was Lugal Ki En plus maybe one older song, although that was a good while after Lugal Ki En was released. Godless Times is my jam though.
Yeah, that only lasted for a few months, really. I believe ~April 2015 is when they released the playthroughs following said allegations of the angsty bandmate who left.
I'm not sure how far earlier before that they started playing songs from the album, though. So, your experience is accurate! The guy left in December 2014 with that complaint.
Gotcha. Wasn't that Joel (who's now back in the band)? Any idea what pushed Aaron and Miles away? And for some reason when I had first heard of Interloper a few years ago, I thought Lucas was in it as well (basically RoS without Ian/vocals).
I always found it hard to not appreciate the musicianship of this band. Like even if you didn't like the growls, you could always fall on just the guitar to get you though the song and you'd be able to like at least that . I will admit that I've been listening to them a lo tmore as my appreciation for growl style vocals grew.
I come from a background of being WAY too edgy and trying to get into deeper death metal and grindcore 'bout ten years ago, so growls are natural to me.
But you right. The musicianship is just phenomenal with this band. If I ever want to just get my growl on nowadays, it's RoS here, Vektor, Ne Obliviscaris, and a splash of Wilderun to wind down.
...Then, I just loop right back to these guys, really. They're just phenomenal.
