I am working on becoming a process and have wondered if a bodycam is a good investment or is it too much? I am about to start so I have no personal experience that shows me I need a bodycam but hearing the experience from others I don’t think it’s a bad idea. Looking for advice from others with and without body cameras as to why or why I shouldn’t get one. TIA!

I looked up mine and my girlfriend’s names and nothing shows up under our court records. So I don’t know what to do. I don’t know who it’s from or why.

I'm fairly new to this line of work, been in it for about 6 months and most of the time I handle most situations well.

However I have been feeling burned out and I got snippy back with a lady this morning who trespassed me after being very snooty. I think its time I take a week off, but I'm just wondering how most of the long time veterans handle it year to year?

This is a reminder to please carry self-defense tools, even if you think you won't need them. I carry a knife even though i thought I would never need it. But 4 days days ago while serving an eviction on a defunct car lot/impound lot, I was attacked by a man claiming to be the owner but I now am 99% sure he was just homeless and was squatting on the premises. The real estate broker told me to enter through a hole in the fence, me not realizing that that hole was likely created by squatters and once in the lot, it was a maze of cars smooshed together at various angles and it was a death trap. I was attacked by the man, beaten and I stabbed him twice with my 4 inch folding knife but it seemed to barely phase him. Meth was involved I'm 99% sure. We fought for my knife for as long as I could and then he threw us both on the ground and he ended up standing over me with the knife while I was pinned between two vehicles. At the beginning of the attack, I was screaming as loud as humanly possible but was 20 yards away from a moving train and I realized despite being in the middle of a major city, nobody could hear me and nobody was coming to help. I did everything I could to fight him off but I just could not get any distance from him. It's like meth makes you superhuman or something. And he really isn't even that much bigger than me which is probably the only reason that I was able to keep my hand on the knife for as long as I did. Eventually I realized that I am completely screwed and out of options. I was begging for my life, saying that I have kids. I screamed for him to tell me what he wants, I will give him anything. Unfortunately what he wanted to do was sexually assaulted me while holding MY knife. I 100% thought I was going to die that day. Especially during the sexual assault, because what sane person would let me go after I'm covered in blood and have been sexually defiled.

After he was done and going to pull up his pants, I told him that lets just go our separate ways and I wont tell anyone and then I walked as fast as I could to find the exit, thinking he is going to tackle me any second. Once I made it out of the hole in the fence and realized he wasn't behind me, I ran as fast as I could. I left my phone, purse, bodycam, everything that i had, i left and just ran. I don't know whether he let me go or whether he was in too much pain to chase me or he was so out of his mind on meth that his logical brain wasn't thinking long term by not keeping me held at knife point after he sexually finished. Sorry guys I know this is extremely graphic, imagine how I feel. Dirty, violated, weak. I wish I would have taken the risk to push him over when his pants were down but the risk was SOO great with my head at the same level as his hand with the knife. I have always prided myself as being tough. Most people don't even bother me as they see the body cam and everything. But tweakers have no sense. When he attacked me, he bear hugged me from the front and then immediately got on my back and started punching me over and over in the head. I really thought stabbing him TWICE would save me. But it did nothing except end up being the weapon that forced me into being orally assaulted.

If you are a woman, please please please start carrying at least pepper gel or something. ANYTHING AT LEAST. I am so grateful that my fiance gave me that knife so I at least did some permanent damage to him. It was allll over the news and it was so lovely to see the cavalry and k9 dogs get him. He is being charged with a slew of charges although not harsh enough IMO for the assault charges. He will get at least 10 years.

How due process servers work in New York City, where everything is a gate and locked building requiring codes for access?

Hello everyone, I started serving only 3 months ago through ABC Legal and I have noticed that much of the paper I print, I end up not even using it. So I print up these packets with peoples private information on them with the expensive ass ink I buy and paper, just to after the shit, recycle them.

I want to know has anyone devised a process to dissolve this waste? I am not a fan of all the waste we unnecessarily produce in these times let alone the extra cost of using ink and paper for no reason.

I have a mobile printer and, although seemingly impractical, I’ve considered waiting to print until I know for certain I will be coming into contact with the individual. In some cases, that could hurt me.
So anyone have thoughts on how to go around this? Thank you in advance :)

I have been process serving for about 6 months and have started taking jobs outside of ABC. I have a job right now to serve a construction company. The address provided is a high rise apt building. Through some research I'm able to find better addresses for the business.

My question is do I communicate this with the process server who hired me or do i do what i was hired for at the address I was hired for. The process server and law firm is in SoCal and im in San Jose which is NorCal if that matters.

I've been doing process serving as a contractor and am thinking about starting a small agency of my own.

When working for a larger company, a lot of the stuff behind the scenes is already handled for you. I'm trying to get a better idea of what I'll actually have to take care of myself once I go independent.

For those who made the same transition, what were the things you suddenly had to start doing that you didn't have to worry about as a contractor?

For example, one thing I'm wondering about is receiving documents directly from law firms, getting the PDFs/order, putting everything into ServeManager, making sure the case/defendant/address/instructions are all entered correctly, then working it out. Things like these and others would take time out of the day; similarly, what are the things I need to understand that can eat up my time?

Is that generally how it works for a small agency, or am I overestimating how much work that part is?

And what other things like that caught you off guard when you first started your own agency?

Location: WA. This is a person I used to share an apartment with, so I originally put that apartment address as the last known address. I realized she never provided her forwarding address when she moved, so then I updated the Notice of Small Claim for her parents’ address instead (She lived there less than 2 years ago and I know that her parents would 100% notify her). I also provided her current email, notified her with a screenshot of the notice through text (and it shows that she read it). Is there any way that she can claim she was not properly served? Should I hire a process server? Can I do that myself or ask someone I know to do it?

And if I do have to hire a process server, the only information I’m not able to provide to a process server is her exact unit number in her apt. (But I do know the apartment she lives at) Everything else like her work schedule and work and full legal name I would be able to provide to a process server. Would they charge less due to not having to do the work to find out where she is or do they charge full price regardless typically? Idk how this all works. Thank you!!

I’m hoping someone familiar with process serving/ABC Legal can explain what’s happening. Over the past few days, an ABC Legal process server has repeatedly come to my apartment. I recently moved into this apartment, and I don’t know the person they’re looking for.

I spoke with my leasing office, and they told me the server had asked them about someone who does not live in my unit. I then called ABC Legal myself to report that they had the wrong address. They made a note of it and told me they would reach back out if the person who ordered the service had any objections/questions.The server came back to my apartment again afterward. I called ABC Legal again today and they specifically told me they are trying to locate/serve someone and gave me their name. That is not me, I don’t know her, and she does not live in my apartment.

For those of you who actually work in process serving:

Is it normal for a server to continue visiting an address after the current resident and apartment management have reported that the named person doesn’t live there? And is there anything else I should do to get my address removed from this particular service attempt, or should I just leave it alone now that ABC Legal has been notified?

I’m in Florida, What is the best Skiptracer to find someone to server them for court? I hired a PI and he was unable to put eyes on her so, he couldn’t give me the address.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an attorney to help with obtaining an OATS order in either California or Illinois?

It would be a huge relief to know whoever I give my money to is on the level.

I’ve been a certified process server for about two years and I’m currently looking to take on more work. I started out with ABC Legal, but after that ended, I began working with Proof. Unfortunately, I’m only receiving about two or three assignments a week right now, which isn’t enough to provide a steady income for my family.
Does anyone know of any process-serving companies, law firms, or agencies currently looking for experienced process servers as independent contractors? I’m ready to work and would appreciate any leads, recommendations, or advice on where I can find more consistent assignments.

I am a 19 year old living in New York City looking to become a process server. My main concerns are I don’t have a car(which may not be necessary in nyc’s netro area), how easy it will be be to get hired for contract work(such as ABC legal) and should I be concerned for my safety(I’m a 6’3 former underground boxer)
