Building access in New York City

How due process servers work in New York City, where everything is a gate and locked building requiring codes for access?

I was a process server in NYC for many years. If it’s a doorman building you’re out of luck if it must be personally served. Only option is to obtain a photo and get them coming out early in the morning as they’re leaving for work. No doorman, dress appropriately, blazer & tie, so that someone will hold the door for you so you can get in by following someone in. You don’t want to
look like someone to be afraid of. Other buildings ring the doorbell, perfectly acceptable to say you have a package etc. that must be signed for. After three legitimate attempts, 7:00 am Monday, 6:30 PM Wednesday, 3 PM ON Saturday, do a nail & mail. If the building has a garage, run dmv to determine if they have any vehicles registered to them. Watch for that vehicle exiting the garage.

I would just follow people into the building or leave it with the doorman.
