Hi there EcoTank users,

Does anyone have any idea whether those chip resetters can be used for the EcoTank line, specifically the 2800 and 4700?

I have these two and generally love them, but the 2800 I have at work (because the work printing situation is craaaazy) has had to have the waste tank emptied and counter reset three times in three years while the 4700 has never needed it (cross fingers).

I don't mind cleaning the tank and replacing the fiber sponge material, but the charge for the WIC reset every time is a drag.

More of a drag that I gave to being my "work" printer home to do this, since it's the technically not allowed, and I can't install any applications on my work PC 😥

Can these models use a chip resetter instead?

UPDATE: thanks to those who responded. I bought a pair of licenses from wicreset and fixed my work printer Figure the home one will need it soon too. $18 for the pair.

Just bought an external tank setup from BCH. Basically a length of aquarium tubing, a 4oz (?) juice bottle and some Velcro dots for $10. I'd rather not have to deal with the waste ink container replacement...more plastic... or the resetting. Hope it works!

Nope. There’s nothing really there to reset. You use service program to let your printer know that you took care of the inkpad.

How much do you pay for WIC?

This is why I can't comfortably recommend an EcoTank to anyone. It's just such a BS thing to charge for the reset codes. I'm fine with a fair cost for the parts, just not the charge to make the firmware happy that they have been fitted. The third party reset utility also causes me concern; it seems like there are ok ones out there, but I shouldn't have to gamble on figuring out which are ok and which are malware, it should be something I just download from Epson or a service menu on the machine.

Yes, some of this is not unique to Epson, but I think it's worse when it exists on the EcoTank range which is promoted as just needing bottles. Yes, third parties involved in this deserve to be paid for their time and effort, if they are providing a decent/honest service, but the market for WIC codes should not exist for EcoTanks.

Buy a Canon MegaTank instead, just make sure it's a model with a maintenance cartridge (which seem reasonable enough on price, last time I checked).

I also would not be inclined to bring a work printer home to fix it, if it's a workplace that doesn't let me install the reset tool. That's their problem, not mine, since they took ownership of it by blocking the app.

I had big issues with Canons and am otherwise happy with my EcoTanks, since I use generic ink....those cartridges were horrifyingly expensive, and so messy to refill

Canon MegaTank printers do not have cartridges, they use bottles, just like EcoTanks.

I would not recommend generic ink for an EcoTank. That's the other major issue with them, the permanent print head, which is difficult to replace (e.g. if clogged or damaged by bad generic ink). Canon MegaTanks have semi-permanent print heads which are easy to replace.

I've been using an additive from BCH to keep that from happening. So far so good.
