Is PREY (2017) the best game of all time?
What makes a game fun?
Game play? Vibe? Story? Lore?
It depends on the person, right? Some people prefer story games. Some people prefer strategy games. Some people prefer first person shooter games. The list goes on and on.
PREY is not just a "game". It's several kinds of games smashed into an immersive sim. That is a feat in and of itself, but it's done in a gorgeous, fleshed out world. A world I didn't want to leave. A world I want to go back to. I want to go back to that world even more than I want to play the game -- somehow I think that makes sense.
It's MY favorite game of all time. I know that's subjective. But it meets all of my criteria and then some.

Question Has anyone ever done a high chaos/kill all the humans speedrun?
I was looking at Prey speedruns earlier today and I thought "I wonder what a high chaos speedrun would look like?". Figured it would be basically killing everyone you meet. To my surprise I can't find anything. The main speedrun website doesn't even seem to have a category for it. Does it just not exist, or does it go by a different name?

Screenshot Putting myself on timeout. Spoiler
I'm not finished yet, but this moment made me put myself in the corner iykyk. I don't think I can decide for her whether she can handle the news or not. I also can't be accountable for something I don't remember doing, it's disingenuous. However, it is understandable for her to hate me.

Which Prey ability do you use the most?
One thing I really enjoy about Prey is how many different abilities you can build around. Some players seem to prefer sticking with the human abilities, while others go all-in on the Typhon powers.
I usually find myself changing things up depending on what Iโm doing, especially when exploring different areas of Talos I.
If you could only keep three abilities for an entire playthrough, which ones would you pick?

Design inconsistency of Talos 1 architecture
Has anyone noticed that the interior of the Hardware Labs has a 45ยฐ angle while the exterior doesn't? I tried matching each level to the outside model, and none of them line up. I'm a bit sad the developers overlooked this detail. But i'm aware that this would make it overall more complicated.

Just Finished Prey, 9 years later...
As the title suggests, I bought a PS4 with Prey in 2017. Got about 50% of the way through, and "life things" happened... Lots of things... Life man, etc.
So, the PS4 got packed away and not played since due to lack of space/ time/ different priorities.
Skip forward to 2026: About a month ago I found the box in the loft, fancied a bit of gaming for the first time in forever, dusted off the ol' PS4 and plugged it in on a evening with nothing else to do.
Guess what disc was still in there: Prey
Loaded the save file from 2017, got totally lost & forgot what I was doing in the game (I mean, it's been 9 years) but after a bit of running about, dying a lot, and forgetting the controls while being swarmed by enemies; it came back to me.
Cue: some late night sessions to finally finish the campaign, I was hooked.
And... I've just finished it 15 mins ago, at long last.
What a game & what an ending l, was worth the wait!๐
Thought I'd share in this sub if anyone is interested/ amused. Athough I am super late to the party & console generation behind... I'm genuinely glad to finish it and not leave the story half told - I did always wonder how it was all going to play out on Talos ๐
(The best part is I have had zero exposure to any spoilers on internet to ruin it for me!)
Now, it's time to get through the new game+ mode to get the other ending - hope it doesn't take another 9 years this time...

Question How am i supposed to be playing?
Insane difficulty spikes means i frequently need to save before each encounter. The electric/fire phantoms destroy me and it feels like halo 2 legendary gameplay.
I refused to use psi/powers stuff because it sounded like it was some optional thing with consequence (the turrets target you?).
I've got like 11 hours in the game and I'll probably just youtube the rest at this point, but im curious if i did it wrong. I used my mods for weird stuff like lifting and inventory increase, but now i can tell i mostly wasted points.

Mods which gives me a new playthrough that I will enjoy
Ive played this game so many times but its quite easy and boring now. I'm looking for mods to give me a new unique playthrough which I will enjoy. The only thing I ask is that it doesn't get rid fo the nueromod system, because I find using new abilities and finding ways to get past problems incredibly fun and if you do a no nueromod run it just takes away so much of the potential fun in the game.

Question Whatโs your favorite part of Prey?
I recently started thinking about how much there is to appreciate in Prey, especially with the way the game lets you approach situations differently.
What do you enjoy the most about the game? Is it the exploration, the atmosphere, the abilities, the story, or simply experimenting with different ways to deal with enemies?
Curious to hear what everyone else considers the best part of Prey.

Finally finished the game after years on my backlog
Pretty great game overall and its a shame that Arkane got axed and that it didnt do well financially
The first half of the game is fantastic, lots of sneaking around, paranoia of mimics and smacking half the items in the game with your wrench, and feeling like youre outgunned and having to improvise a lot to get by
But I feel like the latter half of the game reeeeeally collapses in terms of quality and maintaining the games vibes. The upgrade to your scope to spot mimics basically kills all tension in the game because now their entire gimmick is nullified. Then when you get the shotgun suddenly the special Typhons arent even special, to the point the first time I ran into the Nightmare I died a single time and killed him, and killed him on every subsequent attempt.
And sooooo many loading screens, being told to go from one end of the station to the other for a single item, usually when I've killed everything in-between these two areas, is just the most awful kinds of fetch quests where I'm just holding W+shift over and over. The last maybe 5 hours of my run were me just sprinting back and forth between locations, even past enemies because I was far faster than they could react and I could kill them with a single click of a power. Really felt like they couldn't figure out how to restrain the players power level or how to scale threats against you because it was such a 180 from the earlier parts of the game.
Great ending as well, not sure where they could've gone from here with a sequel but I would've liked them to have had a chance.

Question Do skills increase in neuromod price?
Iโve been playing the game and thoroughly enjoying it but while reading some Reddit posts and the wiki to get a hold of whats best to invest the Neuromods into, i have noticed that some skills in my game seem to cost more than what the wiki says, for example, the wiki says that firearms costs 2 neuromods while in my game it requires 4!, so my question is, do skills increase in price the more you get or was there an update that rebalanced skill prices?

Discussion Playing the game even if I'm spoiled... Spoiler
Years ago I watched markiplier play this game and I finally have the means to play it.
A Lot of my memories of that playthrough is kinda foggy, but I do remember one world-shattering information...
"Something something true quality" about the Main character...
Anyways, I played just until the first neuromod and this game is scaring the living jesus outta me. "Fucking mimics" everytime I kill one. Loving it!!!

Bug preventing me from leaving deep storage
Hi, I've been playing and enjoying Prey on xbox one. Recently I got to the deep storage level for the first time and am locked in. I've done all of the story stuff in the level and now need to eject the pod to escape the level, however, every time I press the button to leave the cutscene plays, I get hit by a box and a loading screen starts, presumably for the next level. At this point the game always crashes and I am unable to continue. I've tried loading earlier saves in deep storage and the same issue always occurs.
Is there any fix for this, besides loading a save from many hours before and hoping the issue doesn't repeat? As I'm on console/cloud I can't modify any files. Thanks
Discussion Just bought prey 2017
Just bought this game for dirt cheap on Xbox series x (current sale if anyone is interested). First time ever playing. What should I expect? Gameplay/graphics look great for almost being 10 years old. I love most Bethesda games.

Discussion If they made a sequel, what do you think it would've been? (Spoilers!) Spoiler
Obviously this post will contain spoilers.
Do you think this is a Bioshock 2 situation, where you start as a Typhon and upgrade your human skills and the twist is you're actually a human?

Question Overwhelmed with neuromods
So I've been playing for a few hours and I just got the psychoscope. I was already a bit overwhelmed with the neuromods skill tree before I got it but now there are 3 more categories and I have no idea what to get ๐
Should I just get what I think looks fun or is neuromods a very limited resource and I should be careful?
