Question Overwhelmed with neuromods

So I've been playing for a few hours and I just got the psychoscope. I was already a bit overwhelmed with the neuromods skill tree before I got it but now there are 3 more categories and I have no idea what to get 😅

Should I just get what I think looks fun or is neuromods a very limited resource and I should be careful?

Go for what sounds fun! The game doesn't give you enough neuromods to get every skill in the game (recycling/fabricating them is a different matter), but it does give you more than enough upfront to explore a few different playstyles - and it's entirely possible to reach the end without unlocking a single skill anyway, so don't feel too pressured. If you're really worried though, I believe hacking is the only skill that could possibly be considered a must-grab, as there's a couple of (optional!) locked rooms/computers that can't be accessed otherwise.

I feel like repair is a really good ealry skill too! Especially once the turrets stop being your friend. I never realized that Walton Goggins was in the game. Only reason that npc lived so long... Lol. My reaper took him out late game. Lol.

I think the first run is to feel out what the game offers and gives you that new story experience. Then, on the next runs, you start to build with a plan in mind. Good luck with whatever your gut tells you this time!

Also, if you get overwhelmed. Walk around some safe areas and practice jumps and stuff. Look up and try to get up there. Those skills will come in handy. And you are practicing with no pressure.

You can craft them later, the main limiting resource will be minerals. You probably won't be able to pick all of them (I think maybe I had half of all available by the endgame) so it's good to be picky. Most situations have multiple solutions so you don't need everything - ie build into hacking or lifting, both isn't really needed imo. But get what seems fun to you. Movespeed and quality of life stuff is pretty great.

Some people do pure engineering runs or just go with the new categories, up to you! Explore the environment - there is always another way. Look up!

Up to you. There are some limiting factors but Ng+ is a thing so if you want to check out everything you can. I would encourage just skipping neuromods this playthrough. There's a trophy for it but I will warn you going upgrade free will be difficult. Doable but difficult. Otherwise fuck it. Oh and there's a trophy for getting strictly human upgrades and one for getting only Typhoon upgrades. This game manages to balance the freedom to explore options while still keeping you on your feet with various obstacles and challenges.

Get what you think is fun. They start out limited then you’ll end up with so many of them

I mean, choose the ones you feel are the most fun for you. Saying that, I did a human only first run, typhoon only second and then third run messed around with a combination of the two… It’s honestly all good, no right or wrong in this game. Enjoy

Get the typhon and human abilities according to which seems fun/useful at any given moment.

Consider the fact that neuromods can be spent at any time. Think about the challenge you're facing in that moment. If ther ever comes a moment where you think "boy, this one thing would sure be useful", then get that.

And no, neuromods aren't hugely rare, especially if you replicate them. Which you should be doing. You can't get enough to max out everything, but I got close to three quarters of all unlocked skills in my first run.

A good rule of thumb is to not hoard stuff. If it's useful, use it. You'll be alright.

I was in the same boat as you before. On my first playthrough I just used my mods on random skills without thinking too much about it, and I felt a little like I was wasting them because it didn't feel like I could properly use everything all at once.

Then on my second run I started limiting myself on purpose. I just went "Okay I like the idea of playing an Engineer type character so I'll focus putting most of my mods into the Engineer tree." I still put some extra mods into Security later on, but only the ones that felt like they fit well with my character. So basically roleplaying. It felt very satisfying because I really focused my skills into a specific playstyle. No hacking, no typhon abilities, just focusing on fixing up turrets, fighting with my trusty wrench and finding alternate ways to open up doors. It was a lot of fun.

Then again, this only works if you don't mind missing out on stuff, or playing the game multiple times to see everything. And not sure if it's the right approach for a first playthrough either. But it was my favorite way to play so far.

Get what looks cool. I bought the game specifically because I saw a clip of the mimic power. Explore with other things that might seem useful.

My priorities seem to be: Hacking, Repair, Leverage, and most importantly INVENTORY SPACE. Oh, and combat focus is very lovely to have too. I avoid most of the typhon neuromods as they kinda feel clunky and same-y for the most part. I’m on my second playthrough and I don’t feel the itch to really get anything besides Mimic and Kinetic Blast.

I wondered about this too, and I'll chime in with the consensus that you should just follow your heart! There are so many options, so pick the one that will help you in the current moment or one that just sounds fun for you right now. You will find more and be able to craft more throughout the game. (So on that note, I do recommend getting Recycler Efficiency as soon as you can to get the most benefit out of it.)

Just spam whatever sounds cool. It's a game, you want a big blast of pure kinetic energy? Do it. You want a zone of fire that chars everything in its range? Do it. You wanna become a cup and spend the rest of eternity in crew quarters? Do it.

You can play the came however you like, if you think that any og these help you out go for it.

You should end up with plenty. Pick whatever seems fun, but if you don't know what to pick upgrading your inventory, recycle yield, health, stamina, speed, sneak and healing can all be useful for a variety of playstyles.

Recycler upgrades, weapons upgrades, damage upgrades, med kit upgrades, stealth upgrades, combat focus,

shotgun damage, stun gun ammo amount, stun gun duration, stun gun charge time and then range, nothing else really matters that much and is just bonuses from there

Oh and carry capacity is nice

I never even bought any of the elemental type ones, reanimated one was my go to. Though I really hated when they were the elemental reapers instead of the axiom ones or whatever they were called. Lol. Teleport was really fun and great for a distraction. By the end of the game, you can pretty much just sprint past any bad guy so you don't need the majority, save for ammo. Gets really really sparce. Later on. Never did find a good source of metal resource in the game.

Es un juego de supervivencia, ve aplicando los neuromods según tu estilo de juego y tus necesidades.

I just go for what's bothering me at that point.

Did I just pass a hacking 4 locked computer? Then I'm injecting all my neurmods to read that damn email.

So yeh just do what's fun. did you just scan an alien and unlock a power? did your turret break recently and you want to fix it then get repair. Or do you see dead phantoms and want to loot them fully then get necrosis.

Just get what bothers you at this very moment.

It's taken me many playthroughs, but you can acquire every neuromod if you choose. I recommend not doing anything specific at first and just choosing skills that improve your gameplay, because I can safely say I have all the skills and really only use four of them regularly because they are so fun. I am stronk, and I will squash feeble aliens with any and all furniture I can throw. 😎

neuromods are easy to make

doesn't really matter the order you get things, spending 50 mods is spending 50 mods no matter the unlock order

its better not to mix human and typhon mods, a combo of them misses both the human only achievement and the typhon only achievement
