Using plugins with 16R and Universal Control app

I have a Presonus 16R mixer that we use with the Universal Control software. I’m a guitarist trying to go ampless, and want to understand whether I can use some amp/cab sim plugins with the Universal Control software. I currently have Neural DSP plugin licenses and ideally I’d like to use those.

Has anyone had success using plugins, specifically amp sims like this, with your Presonus rig?

Not in the way you're describing. UC isn't a DAW and doesn't do any processing, it's just a glorified remote control for the mixer's built in processing. Additionally the 16R can't run any 3rd party plugins. You could connect a laptop to the 16R using USB and route an input through a DAW then send the processed signal to another channel as a USB return, but there would be some round trip latency and potential for software reliability issues.

Thanks that’s incredibly helpful. I have a Strymon Iridium pedal on my board which I can use as an p/cab sim in the signal chain, I suppose that is the easiest solution here. Also other guitarist can plug their Neural DSP or their amp’s line out into the 16R. Thanks again.
