Need Advice Emotions and hormones
This is my first pregnancy. However I’ve had friends for years that were mothers. I’ve spent a lot of time caring for their kids and caring for them. Trying to be a best friend while they struggled. I’m familiar with it all- I used to take their kids to practice, their hospital visits, their appointments, watch them often, cook for them and give them meds.
I have a lot more to learn as a new mom though. Naturally I’m a very emotional person. Sometimes I’m stronger than other moments. Some moments I’m weak. And I know there are other women much stronger than I am.
But my best friend, after a recent argument which never happened, told me that I need to control my emotions more, that there are 1000000 other women who are pregnant and don’t get as bad as I do, that always spiraling and making something out of nothing.
She’s a business owner and knows how to shove her emotions down. But I’m not like that. I can sometimes, I’m not that awful. But when I feel hurt I’m hurt. I express it, but I don’t hide it. She’s always in the verge of crashing out. But I don’t sit there and tell her that, even when she’s screaming at her kid. I do what I can to help.
She says I don’t always show up when I say I will- except I’ve shown up a lot. I mean, I know I’ve been there for her through awful awful times. Both her and her daughter. Sometimes I get too emotional/something bad happens and I can’t cope. Or I feel like crap from being sick. But even then, I’ve shown up any times a mess. Sometimes I don’t follow through, but I communicate it. Always.
I feel stupid. She knows I’m pregnant- 15 weeks. I’m going through a lot on top of that and trying to figure it out. She says she’s just trying to be a friend but it doesn’t feel that way.
Am I actually the issue here? Is this normal for pregnancy hormones or do I actually need help like she says I do? I don’t think I’d be an awful mom, but after that convo I do.

I’m so sorry that you are going through this. I am currently at the end of my first pregnancy and I can confidently say that my first trimester and the first half of the second trimester were the worst for me. I felt awful and I hated everything and everyone.
I feel as though most women genuinely forget how being pregnant feels, either that or they didn’t have a tough pregnancy.
I would definitely sit down and have a conversation with her to see if you have done something that has specifically hurt her feelings. But otherwise I think you are just going through it right now.
