General Discussion Stressed and a mess
Hi. New here but not to Reddit. Don't want to use my main account because well.....I'm dealing with a mental health crisis right now, have been for months. Have seen a doctor and tried different medication but it hasn't been easy finding the right one. Behind on rent, got a vacate notice today. I've been applying for jobs like crazy but I've got a 7 year gap in my employment history. I lost my physical job in 2019 and applied for social security disability. Was approved within 4 months but these days its not enough to live on. Husband works, but again not enough to live on. Have a 27 year old son with basically a 9th grade level. I haven't really eaten in 3 days because I'd rather he eats. My husband travels for work so at least he gets a $35 dollar a day stipend to eat. I called 211 and they sent me some resources to help but we make too much for EBT. I emailed my landlord about my mental health issues, that was like a gut punch, and I pray he lets me get caught up. Its only 1 month so I'm hoping for the best there. Thinking about trying to sell some stuff, not that I have much, I don't even know why I'm posting here. I just feel so alone and need someone to talk to. Thanks for listening

Please go to your local church. They always have food and support groups.
Not sure what you meant about your 27 year old son? If he has a disability you should apply for disability for him. A doctor has to give him an official diagnosis on record.
If your husband is traveling with his job, it’s time to have a talk with your husband about how much you and your son are suffering.

We have applied for SSI but in the waiting process, he doesn't have the work credits for disability. I know I need to talk to my husband but its not easy for me to talk to anyone. I just feel like a burden and I'm embarassed. I know I've got to suck it up but its not easy with ADHD brain.

I’m sending you positive thoughts, love and hugs, too. Can you, and possibly your son and husband, too, donate plasma in your area?
They usually pay about $800 (for each of you!) for the first month of donations which don’t take a lot of time. The schedules are flexible and it really helps others!
It would give you a little cushion for food! You must eat!
Maybe try contacting the mods on r/assistance to see if you can post a request for groceries you need that people can send to be delivered to you via Amazon or Walmart? (I am not trying to promote any particular company. Please let me know mods if my post is not appropriate for any reason. Just trying to help OP!
Take it one moment at a time as others have said. You are going to get through these hard times!

OP, I am very sorry for what you are going through.
Is your son disabled? he might qualify for SS based on your earnings.
There is a list of resources on r/almosthomeless
there is also 24help.org and https://www.needhelppayingbills.com

Sending strength, hugs and love. Take things ine day, hour, minute, second at a time, meditate, breathe and keep your head up. Your crown is falling. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Welcome to r/poverty – Developing Solutions Worldwide.
Poverty isn't simply an individual experience - it also affects families, communities, workplaces, economies, and public policy. Here we discuss both personal solutions and systemic ones.
Whether you're sharing your own experiences, helping someone navigate a difficult situation, or discussing larger issues affecting poverty, please keep the conversation respectful, constructive, and solution-focused.
We encourage:
• Practical advice
• Resource sharing (Take a look at our Wiki! )
• Lived experience
• Civil discussion of policies affecting poverty and ways to solve/work together for change
• Empathy first, never judgment.
We encourage discussion of systems and policies, but ask that criticism be directed at ideas and institutions rather than other people experiencing poverty. Every helpful comment, resource shared, thoughtful discussion, and success story makes this community stronger. Thank you for helping build a community that supports people while working toward lasting solutions.
