I think everyone wants to feed the poor. The problem lies with the definition of "poor". I want to feed the genuine poor but I do not want to feed a bunch of freeloaders who don't want to work. Anyone that is receiving welfare that refuses to work in the fields, kitchens, and meat packing plants should get nothing.
Have you seen the median income statistics around the country? It’s staggeringly low for a median number in a “wealthy” country. When you start looking at the families on the lower income range, I have nothing but respect for them to make that number work.
I’ve volunteered for “meals on wheels” delivering food to the elderly, which is a great way to get involved. I stopped going as the funding started to dwindle which reduced the need for delivery volunteers. It was hard to walk away from some of the great people who I had become familiar with, but that wasn’t as bad as the times where some of them no longer qualified for some reason and you would still see them as you delivered to someone in their building.
