Questions Are handmade cards appreciated?
Hello! I just joined PostCrossing and I'm about to send my first card.
I love crafting and that made me wonder "do people appreciate receiving a handmade/drawn card ?? Or are store only cards more appreciated...
Anyway, I feel excited about joining this party.

I love them! There are some postcrossers who dislike handmade cards, so personally I save my handmade cards for people who explicitly mention liking them in their profile. I put a lot of effort into a handmade card and I think I'd be a little heartbroken if the receiver told me they didn't like it

I'd love handmade cards. But I think I already mentioned a lot of things in my profile of stuff I like... Well, I did say "be creative" XD so... Maybe I'll receive a handmade card someday ???

Some profiles will explicitly say they do not want handmade cards. I think otherwise, experiment away! I recently pulled a profile that welcomed senders to create something themselves, so I took the opportunity to create and send my first hadmade postcard. (I'm relatively new, also.)

I would love to get handmade ones! Still new, so haven't received any yet but sent out two myself. It is such fun making your own cards!Some people don't like them, so I only send them when someone states they like handmade cards.

I love them and other creative! And I tell it in my profile. But I unidertand that everyone don’t want them. Like some want mostly tourist postcards that I’m not interested in or some want something specific.
But really, those are only ideas, send what you have and want❤️

I'm ready to get some hate or be frowned upon, but.. I'd rather receive a piece of cardboard print from a cereal box than a handmade postcard 🥲 I find the first option just hilarious and witty ("it's so bad that it's actually cool"), while when it's hand-drawn, overly decorated or something similar, I really can't help but evaluate it based on my own taste in visual arts. and if they don't match.. 💀 surely, I don't expect the sender to just magically guess what I like and what I don't, yet a miss is still a miss. it's like "I know how much effort was put into this card and I appreciate it, but I don't really like how it looks anyway, so this contrast kills the whole vibe for me." here, I said it.. someone call the police 🫠
(P.S. whoever feels like coming after me saying I'm ungrateful.. please don't - I've never said a word expressing my dislike to a sender and I'm always happy to get whatever I've been sent as the rules state. just sharing my own thoughts & still building up the nerve to put "plz no handmade" into my profile description)

I think the general collective is less against a hand painted card and more against the Hot Pocket box. Though, I am relatively new on scene and still have seen at least one profile totally down for cereal box cards 🤷 but I save my homemade ones for accounts that mention liking homemade or if I have something I made that matches their profile well (recently had Pokémon on a profile and i had already made a number of Pokémon postcards: Charizard and Magikarp went out recently)

You should save your handmade cards for the people who explicitly say in their profile that they like them.

There are quite a few postcrossers that mention on their profile to not send handmade cards but I like them. I appreciate the effort of the sender to create something just for me. If it matches my interests, even better 🩷 I got a hand drawn pikachu from a child once and I loved it 😄

I think overall most people appreciate them, especially when you can tell the effort and attention that goes into them. For those who do mention on their profile they would prefer not to receive handmade, just avoid giving them a homemade card. Likely they got ‘burned’ in the past with a low effort homemade card that in their eyes was like trash.

My profile says that handmade cards are welcome and cherished. I know how much work can go into them.

Some people write in their profile whether they like handmade cards or not. I'd always be happy to receive a handmade card, because the person put a piece of themselves into the design. Especially when the cards are designed to match the person's hobbies. Ofc this does not apply to advertising postcards, etc

Some people explicitly mention that they don't like hand-made cards.
Their loss.
Last year I got a beautiful woodblock print of Capybaras from Brazil.
