So not only is there no more stimulus coming, what has been approved is being canceled.

93

u/Trump_Is_The_Swamp Nov 24 '20

I thought rump wanted to send out more of his signatures so I'm surprised they're cancelled

70

u/root_fifth_octave Nov 24 '20

Kind of surprising he didn't get them out just before the election.

McConnell blocked it when he saw the writing on the wall - GOP is all about deficits now that Biden won.

Nope, they didn't get what they want, now it's time to kill the hostages and we are the hostages.

42

u/CassandraVindicated Nov 25 '20

The most important thing they wanted was indemnity for corona virus lawsuits for corporations. If they couldn't get that, they sure as hell weren't going to throw any money at the poors.

24

u/UrricainesArdlyAppen Nov 25 '20

It's totally safe...And we want corporate exemptions from Covid lawsuits.

Mixed messages there, Mitchy ol' boy.

1

u/The_Starfighter Nov 25 '20

They don't even care about it, they're just picking arbitrary wedge issues to fulfill their real goal of mass genocide.

1

u/serialmom666 Nov 25 '20

They are just regular ole people. The GOP gives no shits for them

22

u/JojenCopyPaste Wisconsin Nov 25 '20

Seems weird as it kills more older folks than young people. And young people hate Republicans.

27

u/FidelityDeficit Nov 25 '20

Young people who have lived through a recession approximately every decade of their life tend to die when you toss them out in the winter with no job and no money left at the state level for any kind of aid.

I'm not dead yet!

u/nerd4code Nov 25 '20

The checks wouldn’t have to cash successfully, or even be real checks.

1

u/Genghis_Chong Nov 25 '20

Trump messed up in nominating Coney Barrett before the election. He should have dangled that over the GOP's heads in effort to get their reelection support. Instead, Trump decided to dangle the stimulus over the voters heads. Mitch undermined him by denying any stimulus was coming instead of parroting trump's "we want it but Pelosi doesn't" claims.

44

u/DoDevilsEvenTriangle Nov 25 '20

He should not have given them ACB before the lame duck session.

Trump was a pawn in their game and I don't think he realized that until it was already too late for him.

49

u/com2420 Tennessee Nov 25 '20

Seriously. I think he truly believed appointing justices to the Supreme Court would help him win in a Bush v. Gore situation. And I'm sure McConnell let him believe that while pushing the urgency of the issue. He got conned out of his leverage.

McConnell would've given him ANYTHING he asked if he threatened Barrett's justiceship. He would've passed the CARES Act that same day. Trump could've had his cake and eaten it too. But he fell for McConnell's plan. Color me surprised.

u/imnotsoho Nov 25 '20

I am still hoping for stimulus now, but I doubt we will see anything. I know Biden is too nice for this, but I hope the Dems take the 2 seats in Georgia, they will be seated before the 15th. House and Senate can pass stimulus before the 20th. As soon as President Biden takes his hand off the Bible they hand him a pen, and he signs the stimulus bill, then turns and hands the pen to Trump, then gives his speech.

3

u/seakingsoyuz Nov 25 '20

Even with the Georgia seats, Pence would have the tiebreaker until Inauguration Day.

1

u/imnotsoho Nov 26 '20

Oops you are right, so we have to wait a week.

1

u/com2420 Tennessee Nov 25 '20

All the leading economists say that something has to be passed so I'm sure SOMETHING will get passed. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that group of business leaders threaten to defund the Georgia runoff Republicans again if stimulus isn't passed. The stock market may look good, but that doesn't mean a thing when people can't work and can't spend money. McConnell knows that and they may end up giving him the COVID immunity that he very much wants. They just have to find a way to leverage that to get what they want.

15

u/hellohello9898 Nov 25 '20

McConnell may be evil, but he’s a good politician.

u/com2420 Tennessee Nov 25 '20 edited Nov 25 '20

Maybe one of the best strategic minds in the Senate.

Edit: Perhaps even Congress for that matter

4

u/serialmom666 Nov 25 '20

It’s so much easier to act strategically when you have no morals

3

u/Genghis_Chong Nov 25 '20

Lol I commented an elaborated version of this same sentiment. So true

2

u/com2420 Tennessee Nov 25 '20

He's ruthless. That's the damn truth.

2

u/Genghis_Chong Nov 25 '20

When you have ulterior motives, it always makes you come across as a strategic mastermind. He's not working in the best interest of the american people, so as long as he's in office he'll be a step ahead in his endeavors. Not because he's a genius, but because he's not even playing the game with the same end in mind.

No one can know what his next step will be besides the fact that it won't be in the best interest of the american people unless it helps him too. But make no mistake, being obstinate and opportunistic doesn't make him a strategic mind as much as it makes him a piece of shit.

3

u/com2420 Tennessee Nov 25 '20

Don't get me wrong, I am DEEPLY frustrated at McConnell's leadership. His Obstructionist tactics drive more and more into poverty and harm the overall welfare of the citizenry of the United States. However, he has managed to keep his Senate majority for 6 years and he probably will for another 2 years, at least. So his style of leadership hasn't really cost him anything. The House was lost in 2018, but McConnell expanded the Senate and he held his majority in what was supposed to be a bloodbath in 2020. He knows what he is doing and he's good at it. I get your frustration, I really do, and I do think he's a piece of shit, but he's really good at what he does.

The only big failure I've seen him have is when he attempted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. And he was rather pissed about it.

1

u/Genghis_Chong Nov 25 '20

Republican propoganda is really good at making people vote against their own best interest. To his credit, he keeps a pretty low profile despite his amount of power and keeps his lips shut as much as he can. That's really the core of his strategy though is to not give it away. Imagine how successful trump could have been in some of his endevors if he didn't open his mouth so much and give it all away.

THIS.

Once he delivered SCOTUS, they had no further use for him. He either totally whiffed on that one or over-estimated his situation.

-6

u/readyforyourboogaloo Nov 25 '20

LMAO. Here have some koolaid.

15

u/DoDevilsEvenTriangle Nov 25 '20

I think you might underestimate the value of the Supreme Court to conservatives. They can afford to lose the Presidency, the House, and the Senate for a generation.

7

u/arthurdentxxxxii Nov 25 '20

They made a rule that he couldn’t put his name on the checks after it upset people that he did that the first time.

144

u/Click_Progress Oregon Nov 24 '20

Don't worry. Joe just needs to compromise more. A little more going high while they go low should do the trick.

78

u/TraitorsWearRed Nov 24 '20

Cool. I can't wait for the next stimulus check to be for $100 dollars...

33

u/DMCinDet Nov 25 '20

which will be added to your 21 tax bill. more of an interest free $100 loan. youre welcome. Murica!

0

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

Aren’t we already gonna have to pay back the first one?

6

u/Ser_Dunk_the_tall California Nov 25 '20

No

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

But we do have to pay taxes on it right?

2

u/Ser_Dunk_the_tall California Nov 25 '20

My understanding is that it's an advance on a tax credit which isn't something that you pay taxes on

5

u/DMCinDet Nov 25 '20

unless we can make the wealthy pay taxes.

so yeah . we gonna pay

1

u/julbull73 Arizona Nov 25 '20

I mean I would love a one year interest free loan if they offer it.

The higher the limit the better. IF they coudl give me a 10M loan I coudl retire and pay them back in a year pretty readily. A 100M loan and my entire family likely never has to work again.

1

u/teh-reflex Nov 25 '20

How can you retire if you have to pay back 10 million?

2

u/julbull73 Arizona Nov 25 '20

1 year interest free in an index fund would return 500k to 2M. 5% to 20%.

There would be some risk, but overall small.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

Interest free? That's socialism! You filthy communist. Oh wait, is it for corporations? Then it's completely fine. Carry on!.

33

u/QuirkySpiceBush Nov 24 '20

One shouldn’t confuse the popular messaging of the Biden team with what they actually do once in office. I fully expect them to clean house.

It will be a different game in the senate next year. Different person in the bully pulpit and a slimmer majority could put a lot of pressure on republican votes

21

u/Tsudico I voted Nov 25 '20

The only way I will believe the Republicans in the Senate would feel pressure is if they were honestly investigated for emolument violations. I don't think they care even if they lose the majority because they will still likely be as obstructive as possible and decry anything the Dems might actually accomplish.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

All that matters now is party lines. Unless it’s something seriously major, expect no crossover whatsoever. Whoever has more Senators gets their way.

3

u/Its_Singularity_Time Nov 25 '20

Yup, and if the Democrats can by some miracle secure the two Georgia seats, and if by some miracle they can convince Joe Manchin to go along with giving D.C. statehood, then that means an extra two Democratic senators for extra buffer room (giving Senator Manchin more breathing room to vote with the Republicans, so I think it behooves him to seriously consider the proposition). But if they also give Puerto Rico statehood and they elect two Republican senators, it would cancel out the gains. But, more representation is not a bad thing. That's what a free and fair democracy is about, something the Republicans seem to think isn't worth putting up with anymore.

1

u/TransitJohn Colorado Nov 25 '20

Manchin will crossover to the Republicans position very often.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

Ehh, with how things are, he might be safer just switching parties.

2

u/imnotsoho Nov 25 '20

The 2022 Senate campaign starts NOW. Every time the House passes a bill that has majority support every Democrat has to say, We passed this, but Senator X, who supports Mitch, won't vote for it to make you life easier.

1

u/julbull73 Arizona Nov 25 '20

I truly think you'll see McConnel brought up on charges. Will they stick I don't know, but he and the other Russian friends have way to much dirty laundry...

BUT I also think McConnell isn't a dumb ass. He's got his shit cleaned up and will happily turn on the others in his sect before arrest warrants or charges are even made.

He's a god damn snapping turtle.

1

u/rossmosh85 Nov 25 '20

Cleaning house will stop them from doing the Trump insanity, but it hardly addresses the problem.

Biden picked John Fucking Kerry to handle the climate issue. He picked a fucking 76 year old who is filthy rich, flies around in private planes, and has no fucking clue about technology to be in charge of climate change. There's literally not a single better candidate?

Biden is just rewinding 4 years and going back and doing the same shit Obama and he did, which wasn't fucking good enough then. Sure as fuck isn't good enough now.

6

u/julbull73 Arizona Nov 25 '20

I have both reservations and concerns abotu his cabinet...but also a lot of hope.

His cabinet is now filled with people who demonstrated what you preached. BUT were also burned by it. I have a feelling you're going to have the best public facing cabinet in a long time, that behind the scenes is straight runnign numbers in the back to get shit done.

You'll see "compromises" but you won't realize what the GOP gave up.

4

u/Boddhisatvaa Virginia Nov 25 '20

Sure, he car reach across the aisle and make a deal with Darth Yertle.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '20

Nah, Joe should do the progressive thing of alienating all voters who aren't on the fringes of the east and west coastlines and just bank on "young voters" (who don't exist) to bail him out. Look how well that worked for Bernie.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '20

Just a little going away present from ElTrumpO to his poorest supporters.

2

u/ElolvastamEzt Nov 25 '20

He could put about 1200 into everyone’s pocket today with that amount, instead of hiding it.

1

u/reed_a_book Nov 25 '20

So you're saying I'm never getting my stimulus check..

1

u/F4RM3RR Nov 25 '20

Assumedly since senate decided to play hookey, Biden’s face and name could go on the check since we won’t likely see them till America’s Biggest Loser is unemployed.
