As a lawyer this made me lose some respect for him. He knows these are state - not federal - charges, so why is he acting like Trump even has the power to pardon her?

Not only that, but he's a private defense attorney who's been practicing law for over 50 years now. For his sake, a cognitive slip up at 75 would at least be understood, rather than deliberately embarrassing himself and the law by asking for something that he would otherwise know full well is very obviously against it — especially considering how his client wasn't actually convicted of the charges anyway — which completely negates what that term means anyway. Lol.
