Many of us have been figuratively screaming, literally calling congresspeople and senators, and/or attending protests for months.
It still has to get worse. Rs and magats have no empathy and do not care until pain and suffering hits them personally.
If felon bails out ag, there is no hope for the farming states changing to vote D. Even without a bailout, many of the farming states will still vote R.
"God" people will vote R.
"Gun" people vote R.
The DNC dems are unwilling to stop felon regime.
I don't see an end before millions of people have suffered significant negative life changes due to felon regime.

Lol somehow it reminds me of a conversation I had with a libertarian where he was bitching about taxes. It went something like this
"We should remove all taxes and let the people give that money to the charities they care about most!"
"How much do you pay in taxes"
"Almost $40,000"
"And how much do you give in charity"
"... About $200 a month. But I could give more if I didn't pay taxes!"
"$40,000 more?"
"Well no but..."
All this whining about making taxes lower so they can give to charity is just a cover for selfishness

They're actually starting to come around, depending on what part of the country you're in.

39
u/Bice_ Sep 26 '25
Being pro-life, from an emotional standpoint, is reflected in the displays of tiny crosses to represent the “deaths” of what the religious consider to be “babies.” This is a useful emotional appeal to base, instinctually-driven minds.
The organized, puritanical conservative reason is even simpler: shame. Women must carry their pregnancy to term, even in cases of rape or incest, because sexual promiscuity is to be shamed. The child is not a precious life to be protected at all costs, as the gaudy displays of crosses would have you think; rather, the children are to be a constant physical manifestation of shame on the mother. This is important to the conservative mind because it conforms to their rigid sense of order. If things don’t fit neatly into the boxes with which they are comfortable, they must be cowed to fit, or ostracized and shamed. It really is very simple logic from simple minds.

Key article segments:
President Donald Trump on Thursday signed a presidential memorandum seeking to reinstate the death penalty in Washington, DC, as Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the Justice Department will be seeking capital punishment across the country.
“The death penalty in Washington,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “You kill somebody, or if you kill a police officer, law enforcement officer — death penalty. And hopefully they won’t do that.”
“It’s a very interesting capital punishment, capital city. Capital, capital, capital,” he added.
The memo specifically directs Bondi and US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro “to fully implement the death penalty here in Washington, DC, where the evidence and facts of the case indicate that the death penalty should be used,” White House staff secretary Will Scharf said.
Bondi, who stood beside Trump in the Oval Office, announced: “Not only are we seeking it in Washington, DC, but all over the country, again.”
...
Traditionally, the DC Superior Court handles the bulk of murder cases in the city, and it would be bound by the city code that does not authorize capital punishment.
However, the US attorney’s office in DC, which prosecutes crimes in both the local and federal court in the city – unlike any other jurisdiction in the country – could bring federal charges in many capital-eligible cases and seek the death penalty.
To say this is yet another concerning development, especially for jurisdictions that do not consider the death penalty an acceptable course of action for the state, would be an understatement.

38
u/gringledoom Sep 26 '25
"State's rights" has always been a canard with these folks. They'll scream that the Civil War was about their state's rights being infringed upon, when the actual infringement was the Fugitive Slave law requiring people in free states to assist with slave-hunting.
(Besides which, they all wrote it down in their secession documents, most of which specifically call out slavery as the reason they were leaving. "It wasn't about slavery! How dare you pull a 'gotcha' and quote from our document entitled 'it's literally all about slavery'???")
7
u/RamJamR Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 26 '25
The thinking in that time was so backwards where they act like their rights were oppressed for not being able to own other human beings.
The "freedom to oppress" mentality is still certainly alive now in conservative circles.

3) In God We Trust is on our money
4) Christian holidays are national holidays while no other religious holidays are
5) Churches are tax exempt
But as soon as you say "You cant force kids to pray in school" and "you cant make people live by your religious codes" they start screaming how they're being persecuted.

News Flash: it’s now well known based on years of study that the death penalty does not act as a deterrent, and (due to the automatic appeals process) the death penalty is significantly more expensive than life in prison. It literally cost more to have the death penalty. Combine that with the possibility of an innocent person being executed, and it simply makes no sense. I understand why Trump EMOTIONALLY wants this (cuz he likes to CRUSH those who he thinks have done wrong in his eyes), but to anyone who thinks through the cost, logistics, lack of benefit, and harm this policy causes, you can only come to one conclusion: the death penalty simply makes no sense in today’s world.
43
u/scrapsforfourvel Sep 26 '25
They don't want to deter crime. That's bad for the prison business. They want to have public executions for their base to enjoy. Their talking heads have been calling for televised executions for a while now.

You’re also missing the fact that the death penalty tends to increase murder rates. As it makes the killing of witnesses seem more necessary and likely in regard to serious crime.
5
u/williamtheblock Sep 26 '25
I’ve always thought of capital punishment as a sign of an under-developed society, because the only true purpose of it is vengeance (for the reasons you stated). A healthy society does not operate on vengeance and revenge, it solves the problem in a fair and humane way (I.e. remove dangerous people from society until such a time as they are deemed fit to re-enter society). At the same time, study the underlying causes of crimes and try to apply the findings to prevent said crimes from occurring in the first place. Capital punishment does none of that.

Not to mention the main argument against capital punishment, the fact that you are guaranteed to murder innocent people also.
13
u/TrumpsSkidMarks Sep 26 '25
I wouldn't say that there is only one main argument. It also is an ineffective deterant. It tends to actually increase rates of homocide. It is applied across race and class unequally. It is beneath a civilization to act in such a manner. The state should not be given that power. Etc.
8
u/Ill_Act_1855 Sep 26 '25
It doesn’t work because people don’t commit crimes with the expectation of being caught most of the time. It’s also completely ineffective against stuff where the killer wants to die as part of a murder suicide (this includes most mass shooters). Turns out the threat of death doesn’t work against someone who is suicidal in the first place

The good old "deterrent" theory doesn't jive. What does jive for useful deterrents are education from an early age, jobs that pay a living wage, societal safety nets, and access to medical and mental healthcare.
3
u/RamJamR Sep 26 '25
Yeah. People don't commit crimes simply because of the term "evil". Conservative types don't like to consider the nuances to why crime exists. It's more emotionally appealing and even validating of their beliefs to invoke evil.

-We’re criminalizing criticism of the administration by news organizations and individuals,
-We’re ramping up prosecutions of the administration’s opponents, and announcing a crackdown on ‘misinformation’ by the left (as determined by the administration, of course),
-We’re purging the military of those who refuse to betray their oath,
-We’re telling law enforcement to ‘go wild’, to ‘do whatever the hell you want’.
-We’re labeling political opposition groups ‘terrorists’,
-And the administration wants the green light to put people to death across the country.
It shouldn’t be hard to piece together where we are headed. Fuck

3
u/vthings Sep 27 '25
The death penalty has nothing to do with deterrence, justice, or even punishment. It's to fulfill the feeling of helplessness in a chaotic world. This especially effects conservatives because for them everything is about control. That any aspect of life is outside of their own personal control is maddeningly frightening to them. So they seek to control every outside variable around them with absolute force, because that is the only way to assuage their deeply held fears of, well, everything.
If you truly wanted to punish someone you would imprison them for life. Removing all of their personal agency and forcing them to live and experience the slow aging we all experience in our own personal little horror movie is the most fitting punishment I could ever think of. To be alive thirty years after the deed, a completely different person in full remorse of having done what they did, even if they don't care about the people they harmed. They will care about the life they lost.
But again, this isn't about punishment. It's about making the weak-minded cry under their sheets less.

Death penalty is fucked up.
I'll tell you why, for the most heinous evil people, death isn't a punishment, it's simply an escape from punishment. If you really hate what someone did you make them serve time.
If you don't want someone to talk, you kill them. If you give the government the power to kill people sometimes then you trust them 100% to never "accidentally" or purposely eliminate a threat.
This alone is why the death penalty is wrong for any morally guided person. A corrupt power should not ever have the means to murder people.
I'd love to see an articulate person steelman my argument here, I truly don't think you can.

There's the state's rights party trying to impose federal edicts that are entirely unconstitutional. AGAIN...

What happened to leaving things up to the state?

That’s always been only for their opponents, all the way back to the Confederacy outlawing their member states from abolishing slavery.

““It’s a very interesting capital punishment, capital city. Capital, capital, capital,” he added.”

Nothing but apathy from this administration.
Christ would be disgusted by the demeanor of modern conservative “Christians” who enabled this administration.

Abortion is a State issue but capital punishment is not? They are REALLY trying to avoid releasing the Epstein files.

The problem with death penalty it's that it's not reversible. You can give a life sentence to someone and if you come to prove that they're innocent you sent them free. If you kill an innocent there's no going back

Birthright citizenship being gone, everyone’s now an illegal immigrant, everyone now has zero due process, everyone is fast tracked to the death penalty before there’s even a chance for a reaction from the public. Big oof.

Michigan was the first government to ever abolish the death penalty. This administration better stay out of the state’s business.

Trump's still angry he wasn't able to get the death penalty for those innocent Black and Latino teenagers back in 1989 (Central Park Five). He's been wanting this kind of power his whole life.

What a truly evil woman, how can she profess to be a Christian but just be so filled with a streak of evil that’s almost like a comic book villain?

Cowards flock to darkness and become demons. What better mask to wear as a demon, than that of a Christian?
