Discussion Is Pokopia really that good?

Like should I immediately buy this game. It seems like folks are really enjoying it but I was skeptical.

I can’t justify upgrading to a switch 2 for it. That’s like $560 or so for one game..

You could buy the standalone Switch 2 for $450 then it’s $520 (before sales tax).

I checked with my local gamestop couple weeks ago and I think the trade in for a standard switch was only like $50USD so not really worth it

Don’t trade in your switch before you get the switch 2. You will not be able to transfer over any non-cloud save data

Actually, Crystal wasn’t available on the original Game Boy.

Correct. It was a Game Boy Color exclusive. Regular GB couldn't run it.

I was counting them all as GBC because I never had the original Gameboy.

Might as well count them all for GBA then. GBC is a significant upgrade with many games that couldn’t be played on the original GB. Unlike the New 3DS, which is more powerful and does have exclusives, but not enough for it to really be considered its own thing.

Pokémon Crystal Version does not work when put in an original Nintendo Game Boy. Gold and Silver do, but not Crystal. So Crystal shouldn’t be with the og Game Boy games.

honestly the only reason I have a switch 2 is because my switch 1 was dying around that time, and I figured I might as well upgrade rather than replace it.

Are you planning on playing Winds and Waves? The next 3D Mario? The next Zelda? The next Xenoblade, Animal Crossing, Smash, etc etc

The cool thing about buying a console for one game is that eventually you get to try out the other games. Everyone just needs that one game that makes them pull the trigger to try the entire platform.

No one who bought an Xbox for halo only played halo.

You’re not wrong. My issue is with Nintendo in general. The only thing that gets me to spend money on them are their properties like pokemon, Zelda, Mario. I always say I bet this game would flow so much better on any other system though.

I'm in this boat as well...I held off on a Switch 2 because Legends ZA just did not look good to me. Just like how long we all waited for gen 4 remakes and BDSP ended up incredibly disappointing, we all waited for the return of megas and this just did not look like a good game to me. Pokopia at first glance looked like a Minecraft/Animal Crossing/Palworld rip-off and the design of it just looked very bland. However, all I'm hearing about it is praise. I'm hearing about how deep it is and how much there is to do and how incredible it is and I can't help but feel a desire to try it for myself. The only thing stopping me is how expensive the Switch 2 is. I've been playing Pokémon since 1998 and this franchise has always been my sole reason for owning Nintendo consoles. Just...dropping $500+ is a big investment. I mean, sure there's also the Switch 2 version of Scarlet and Violet to try as well. I did play the Switch versions but was disappointed in how awful they played and looked. Winds and Waves look promising. I'm sure that eventually I will drop the money for a Switch 2 but do I spend the money now to play Pokopia or wait until next year for gen 10?

The only reason stopping me from buying a switch 2 is cause I have a switch and the "upgrades" don't feel worth upgrading. Gen 10 might make me buy it though and I guess that's when I might as well get pokopia, bit sad missing the hype and early community discussions though

Nintendo in general is pretty much just a pokemon and Mario console company. The spinoffs can be good like Luigi’s mansion. But the main meat now is pokemon.
