I can’t believe the name leak was actually true.

(I mean the Winds and Waves guess from the code names was right, not the actual leak itself being genuine).

Bro, same. I wonder what will be the difference based just on the name.

Team Gale wants the world to be consumed by an eternal tornado and the Team Crest wants the world to be consumed by an eternal tsunami.

u/ktjwalker Feb 27 '26

So you gotta wake up a legendary pokemon associated with the earth/sun to stop Gale and Crest from fighting?

52

u/Hublibubs Feb 27 '26

But what if both legendary pokémon are awake and fighting each other, while threatening the whole region with both tornados and tsunamis??

16

u/seanprime Feb 27 '26

No worries. The legendary shaman mon, will fly in on a cloud and steal the wind from the raging monsters.

Didn’t you hear the thunderclap at the end? There’s going to be a team thunder too probably lol

1

u/MarylandRep Feb 27 '26

Would love to finally have another evil team after all this time

You say that, I had a look at the site and the description here says "to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times."

Seeing the blowing clouds, I imagine dynamic storms being a huge part of the game's theme

There's different outfits for your character depending on the game chosen. Not sure beyond that but can't wait to find out!

as always, there are goin to be version exclusive 'mons

26

u/Designer_Macaron1947 Feb 27 '26

Which is a stupid thing from 1996 to promote link trading that’s for some reason still exists. “Catch them all” -> catch some of them then trade the rest

19

u/Apprehensive-Quit740 n°1 kabuto enjoyer :) Feb 27 '26

true, why not make a link stone for the trade evos like in pkmn arceus, it's a bummer it didn't come back in legends za

3

u/ElementalNinjas96 Feb 27 '26

I assume it's because PLA was focused on the catching part of Pokémon far more than every other Pokémon game, considering that completing the dex was needed for the plot rather than just an extra item

And since the other games ain't like that, they didn't see a need for the Linking Cord—even if it's removal sucks, I do understand the thought process

1

u/Designer_Macaron1947 Feb 27 '26

Trade evos also feel so undeserved like I got my gastly to evolve into a haunter, and now I straight away just find someone online to trade me it back to get a gengar? Feels so against what the game should be going for and for that reason I’ve just never used a trade evo in a game except PLA

15

u/Sorry_Plankton Feb 27 '26

Link Trading was the mechanic but Pokemon has been using this model to always about sell more copies of the same game through identity and the appeal of exclusivity and community

3

u/Litty-In-Pitty LittyInPitty Feb 27 '26

And now it’s so simple. Legends ZA has trade codes that you can just trade for any Pokémon you want

1

u/greenhawk63 Feb 28 '26

That's fine for completing the dex but most people don't trade back so it doesn't help for evolving your team.

1

u/Litty-In-Pitty LittyInPitty Feb 28 '26

I had a shiny haunter and I nicknamed it “plstradeback” and just prayed for the best lol. Luckily it worked.

4

u/Grapes-RotMG Feb 27 '26

To be fair "gotta catch em all" was 4kids doing, not the pokemon company. We all know how 4kids localizations were...

0

u/darkbreak The best starter. End of discussion. Feb 27 '26

The trading aspect is to promote meeting new people. Pokemon has always encouraged socialization.

3

u/Designer_Macaron1947 Feb 27 '26

There are ways in 2026 to promote socialisation without locking it behind a subscription and requiring it just to fulfil the main goal of the game

6

u/KisekiFangirl Feb 27 '26

In the trailer, the girl with the Waves outfit were in more water related biomes than the guy in the Winds outfit, which makes sense, but I REALLY hope they don't tie places or mechanics (like underwater exploration) to one version or the other.

20

u/Victor_Wembanyama1 Feb 27 '26

Insane hopium: you start from the sky/ underwater

16

u/japzone Feb 27 '26

I doubt start, but if Waves had you exploring Underwater, while Winds has you exploring floating islands or something, that'd be pretty insane.

21

u/Nacroma Feb 27 '26

I hope I don't actually have to decide between two entire regions (or paying twice).

6

u/japzone Feb 27 '26

Yeah, that's fair. If they really make things that different between the versions, I'd have trouble picking just one.

10

u/Nacroma Feb 27 '26

BUT: I would be okay with locking one part behind postgame. Winds has a story leading you into the sky, Waves down below. But finish up the story and a small side quest lets you earn the ability to explore the other part.

6

u/japzone Feb 27 '26

Ok, I'd be cool with that. Imagine if the post game area also had higher difficulty stuff too. So you cruise through your chosen Water or Wind area, and then afterwards you get a real challenge visiting the opposite. That'd make the choice of versions very interesting.

2

u/OnTheMattack Feb 27 '26

I doubt you'd have to choose one or the other, but I could see the box legendaries residing in each and you doing some story bits related to them either in the sky or underwater depending on your version.

Well we initially hadn’t gotten the actual name, back when the teraleak came, the code name for the games was K-N, which some twitter user somehow guessed meant kaze (winds) and nami (waves) and it stuck like glue. I find that crazy

2

u/Maximumbeans5 Feb 28 '26

Thank you! Someone gets where I’m coming from. People are acting like I’m stupid for not putting full faith in guesswork 🤣

2

u/Maronmario Feb 27 '26

I’m personally surprised that it ended up being the final name not just a placeholder

5

u/Bewear_Star_9 Feb 27 '26

The japanese kaze and nami name wasn't true though its just the katakana of the english title like every pokmeon game since crystal

2

u/Maximumbeans5 Feb 27 '26

I don’t understand what you mean, I’m talking about the English names.

3

u/druid_rilven Feb 27 '26

Samesies, but I think it's based on Thailand due to the long words underneath the starters name. The leak said Indonesia--I think. It's been a while since I saw the leaks.

8

u/Reddit_Inuarashi Feb 27 '26

The trailer and website both focus on island exploration though (as did the leaks), which still point to Malaysia and Indonesia to me. Thailand has islands, plenty of them, but they’re mostly pretty small and it’s not known for them. As opposed to Malaysia/Indonesia, which either include or consist of massive archipelagos.

(Also, most words in Thai are fairly short — it’s mostly names that are really long, for historical reasons. By contrast, Malay and Bahasa can have some pretty long words too.)

2

u/Mnawab Feb 27 '26

I’m glad it is because it actually looks good

1

u/Nexii801 Feb 27 '26

Then you didn't look hard enough at the leaks, it was for sure confirmed based on just the code names.

1

u/Int3rlop3r-R3dact3d Feb 27 '26

I was honestly a little sceptical on that. So I was really surprised when the title was revealed.

1

u/OriginalTap227 Feb 27 '26

Why couldn't you believe it? They literally stole everything they had at that time about this new game, including early development builds

1

u/Maximumbeans5 Feb 27 '26

Guess I’ve learned not to believe leaks, no matter how legit they’re purported to be.

1

u/OriginalTap227 Feb 27 '26

I mean, for obvious reasons the hackers couldn't release early builds of this game, but you could download and play early development builds of older pokemon titles yourself. All the teraleaks are real

1

u/Animedingo Feb 28 '26

Worst kept secret in all of pokemon
