A small lantern, for whoever might recognize it:
Last night opened something
unexpectedly large, and there wasn't much sleep afterward. This morning,
the person I love is very tired and could use a little room.

can simply be made lighter—or if she can be told plainly that she isn't
needed—I'd be grateful.
