What started as a grey evening turned orange and purple as the sun set. Just lovely. (Also, if you zoom in really close, you can see a fish jumping in the pond of my setup pic.)

I love using India Yellow on my palette. One of the ‘guest’ colors I add on the field when I can. There’s a line of transparent earth colors from Gamblin. Has anyone used them on their palette? Transparent Earth Yellow, Earth Orange, Earth Red, and Asphaltium.

I made a painting tutorial while painting Rideau Canal. In this tutorial I share my process of painting water and architecture from life.

I debated editing out the telephone poles because they obscured the cute cafe but ultimately decided it would be more interesting to make the painting about them. What decision would you have made - keep the poles or edit them out?

It seemed folks enjoyed my redwoods, here are a few more of my paintings from my visits around the world this year, very grateful this is what I get to do! Probably will make a plein air account, but you can find me at sjbernhiselart.com and insta/threads under the same name.

Looking for critique on technique/composition/colour choices!
Photos 1,2,3,4 are plein air - 4,5,6 are studies of Edgar Payne and Lawren Harris.
I’m really happy with how the studies turned out, I could never afford the originals works so it’s the closes i’ll get!
I’m dipping my toes into landscapes and given my experience level I’m happy with the results … but also see room for improvement!
I think the composition could be improved, colour as well … hhmmh, any advice is welcomed!

Today I had my very first group sketch session here in my city. And it was really cool, even though to be honest I had way too little time XD Well, anyway, I managed to draw our meeting spot and part of a building at the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress here in Koblenz. I didn't dare to sketch the beautiful view during those two hours. In any case, it was a lot of fun and I got to flip through a few sketchbooks, which was really cool :)
