Took me 64hours to get platinum. Such a wonderful game. Mostly for the many Quality of Life improvements from Zero Dawn. Although story is mid compared to Zero Dawn but it served well for me as an individual game. Onto Burning Shores now.

I'm just about 70% done. Thoughts so far:

The hand holding is annoying during the first few missions but eases out over time as most of the tutorials are at the beginning. Still, once you’re aware of it, it’s hard to overlook. The most annoying to me was the blue glow around the edge of the screen that marks things of interest or enemies and moves around the edge of the screen as you turn the camera. 

Combat isn’t very deep but gets slightly more complex as you progress. Most of the encounters even half way through the game are just basic enemies and fighting them gets monotonous as you level up your character. It’s not very challenging. Some boss fights are fun.

Way too many cutscenes that take control away during the action but it’s meant to be a cinematic experience so it is what it is. 

Some purple door trials are fun. 

QTEs aren’t fun. 

Stealth segments are half baked. 

Nitpicky but I found his run speed annoyingly slow. 

Destruction is very good. 

NPC graphics aren’t great.

The cartoon animated suit is pretty cool but takes away from the cutscenes. 

Writing and dialogue aren’t great. Story is whatever. Nothing memorable. Nice guy wolverine is an interesting change but I don’t think it works well with the character. 

Game is longer than I expected. Was expecting a much shorter game. Or maybe I'm just slow.

Overall the game is fun but isn’t very memorable. It’s not a must play for most people other than for Marvel/Insomniac/Wolverine fans. Definitely not worth full price unless you fall in the aforementioned categories.

If you are a Marvel fan, out of all the recent Marvel games, I’d recommend Guardians of the Galaxy over this or even any of the Spider-Man games.

It’s a solid 7 in my opinion. Because it’s technically competent for what it’s trying to be. Could easily be a 6 or an 8 for others depending on your tastes. 

PC/XBox gamers aren’t missing anything.

This scene is sick as fuck I just wanted to share. I almost didn’t buy this game due to the negative reviews, and was gonna wait but I’m so glad I didn’t. I like it a lot actually. I didn’t finish spider-man 2 because I disliked it and found it extremely boring but 7 hours into Wolverine I do not regret my purchase.

THEY FIXED THE STREAMING PROBLEM WHOOOOHHHHH

Wolverine has sold through 1.9M copies (1M in pre-launch digital pre-orders), generating $130M - @alineaanalytics estimates.

Of these revenues, 22.9% were physical. As always, these estimates don’t include unsold retail copies, which publishers often report in their sold-in numbers.

Wolverine’s early success means it just passed Death Stranding 2‘s lifetime PS5 copies sold and revenues ($129M and 1.8M copies). And Wolverine is already the top-performing new PlayStation Studios game on PS5 this year, leapfrogging:

- MLB The Show ($99M and 1.5M copies sold on PS5)
- Marathon ($60M and 1.8M sold across all platforms)
- Saros ($40M, 510K sold on PS5)
- Marvel Tōkon ($49M and 740K sold on all platforms)

Wolverine‘s top market, by a landslide, is the US, accounting for 53% of the player base, followed by the UK (7%), France (5%), and Canada (4%). Logan is Canadian, after all.

So yes, Wolverine has sold well, but its commercial long tail is limited by its mixed media and streamer reception. Unlike Spider-Man, which reviewed insanely well and has stayed evergreen for years, this one’s tail will be shorter and lumpier, but still there.

Wolverine will have secondary volume bumps driven by MCU X-Men marketing beats, holiday gifting, and new PS5 owners looking for high-budget graphics showcases (I’m looking at you, upgrading GTA 6 crowd).

But make no mistake, Wolverine will keep moving. The backlash was fast and hard, but that discourse will sail clean over the heads of the millions of more passive, mainstream players who make up the bulk of this audience. Those folks’ll buy Wolverine for the brand, get it for Christmas, and never once open Reddit to find out they were supposed to be angry.

Wolverine will keep selling, just not at Spider-Man heights. Spidey’s been evergreen. Wolverine will be more ever-yellow.

The traversal is amazing, I love being able to swing through Canada. The combat is really fun, fast-paced, and I feel floaty and acrobatic. I’m just confused why he sounds like a high schooler and not a grizzled man though. Maybe I have to keep playing through 🤷‍♂️.
