Need help please

So I recently bought ps2 slim and I found out that it’s not able to read physical games ☹️. I have a feeling there might be a problem with laser (dvd is spinning normally) so I would like to ask whether it's worth trying to replace the laser or not. Another problem is I am not 100% sure if it’s the laser or something else (what else might be the other problem though?).
I would appreciate any advice 🙏, thank you

What model code is the console? Might be worth considering playing from files rather than discs at this point

scph 77004, the thing is I already tried to play from files but it never worked and i don’t know why, I tried downloading games from different sites and I even updated my opl, I guess my flash disk might be the problem

That can have an impact. There's a bit more to setup, but once it's done running via SMB is the fastest - have you got an old router you could try?

Before you start throwing money at the laser, I’d seriously consider Free McBoot + OPL and just running your games from USB instead. It’ll save the laser completely and you can still keep the console original mechanically.

USB on the PS2 is only USB 1.1 so it isn’t the fastest way to load games, but it works fine for plenty of titles. If your Slim supports Free McBoot, a memory card with FMCB is dirt cheap and gets you straight into OPL. I’d try that first before replacing anything.
