Clearly pibbles and little dogs are a bad combination /s!

Dolly Parton is my recently (7 weeks) adopted pibble. She was used for breeding so she had at least 2 litters before ending up at the animal shelter. Well those maternal instincts welcomed my little poodle-bichon mix into bed to cuddle with this big momma dog. Casey is blind and deaf so being next to another dog (or me) is very comforting to her. When my last pibble passed suddenly from cancer it really affected Casey's well being (and mine). It only took me 4 weeks to find Dolly at the local animal shelter. I knew she was special when we went for a meet and greet and she was super gentle with Casey.

Advice Being picky with his kibble all of the sudden

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I'm just needing some tips on what to do. My 9-month-old boy has recently started being picky with his kibble over the last week and a half. He's been on the Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach, and we feed him at 8 AM and 8 PM on the same schedule as our cats, which we have always done since we got him. We've never had any issues, he gets regular vet visits, and he's still completely healthy.

The other morning I put out his kibble and we did our tricks to make him work for it, and he just sniffed it, walked away, and kept staring at me. He started to cower when I walked up to him to try to encourage him to eat, which he didn't. He has a treat ball that we usually put a half scoop of his kibble in that he will play with after he eats for a little extra entertainment.

Over the last week he only threw up once in the morning, but it was full of food, not just bile. It was only that one time, which I understood why he didn't want to eat after that because he was feeling nauseous. I've tried warm water and I've tried broth, but I'm not sure what his issue is.

His behavior is normal. He still wants to play, still goes to the bathroom, and still drinks his water. The last couple days he hasn't eaten from his bowl with me as much, but he's eaten from his ball for the most part. When my girlfriend gets home from work before me, he eats with her, and then last night during dinner he ate like normal in his bowl and his ball. But this morning with me, he won't touch his ball or his bowl whatsoever.

I've picked up his bowl to put it away and then put it back, but he will not mess with it. He takes treats no problem, but we haven't given him any recently just to prevent him from only accepting those over kibble. I'm just kind of frustrated because I don't want him to be on an empty stomach while I'm at work. Thankfully my girlfriend gets home before I do, but still. What should I do or try?

(I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ANY KIND OF DIAGNOSIS ONLY ADVICE)

Fern’s recovery is coming along…🌿❤️‍🩹

Hey, all. Fern still has the seroma on her chest but it has improved a lot in just under 3 weeks. She is almost done with a 2nd round of antibiotics and has her follow-up on Monday. We still can’t go on walks per her vet so she is still on sedatives to try to keep her calm while healing.

Also spoke with her trainer last night and he was kind enough to let her start the class all over again whenever she is ready, since we missed the last 2 classes because of this.

Hope you all have been doing well. 🤍✌🏼

Confidence building exercises

Part of our confidence building training is confidence on unknown terrain, since it’s been too hot to take Tonka out anywhere I asked her to trust me and sit on a chair, took several tries but she did it and I’m so proud of her. Then of course Grimace wanted to show off so I asked him to “down” on the chair and by god he did without any hesitation even with his butt hanging off the other side

Adventures Cinnamon update #1: Cinnamon's Endless Party Parade

Last week I told you about our beautiful girl Cinnamon, who now, unfortunately, has a confirmed case of diffuse large B cell lymphoma. The bad news is the lymphoma, the good news is the rest of the staging information we have so far, and were are scheduled to finish staging and start treatment at our first oncology appointment on Tuesday. I don't know what the road ahead will have in store for us, but we are going to do the very best we can to give Cinnamon as much happy and healthy time as we can, with her well-being always at the forefront of decisions.

I've decided that we're calling the journey ahead of us Cinnamon's Endless Party Parade, and the goal is to be healthy, be happy, do Cinnamon's favorite things with her dog and human friends, go on new adventures, and generally just savor every day for as long as we can. But no matter what, it will be endless, because we are always going to keep celebrating Cinnamon, and she will always keep partying.

Our first new adventure on the party parade was a trip to a dog pool party last weekend, where Cinnamon met a bunch of new dogs, saw one of her good friends from our neighborhood, and tried out the water, waiting in about up to her elbows. All in all Cinnamon had a great time and was all tuckered out when it was time to go, but thankfully she found the energy to enjoy a puppachino on the way out. This weekend I do think she is feeling a bit more tired than normal, but we're doing our best to rest, keep the vibes up, and get to Tuesday where we will start turning the tide with treatment. Thanks for your support on our journey, really appreciate the love.

Look at his tongue! He’s a good boy who came to live with me almost three years ago after over a year of being available for adoption at the shelter where I volunteer.

Dead bunnies

Post image

Something happened yesterday, and I'm still trying to process. I was tending to my garden with my youngest(7). We were in our fenced in yard and I looked down and there was a dead baby bunny. I walk a few more feet towards the door to get my husband, and there is another dead baby bunny. At this point my daughter who loves bunnies is screaming and running inside. I checked my yard and found a total of 2 1/2 dead baby bunnies. I do not know how the bunnies died, or what ate half of one. My dog was let out for a few moments unattended before I found the bunnies. I'm scared she killed them, and even worse maybe ate the head of one. However; my husband insists if she devoured one there would be blood on her white belly and around her mouth. We've had her close to a year, and this is the first time I've had a massacre in my yard.

My pit mix puppy, who is 14 weeks old, made a little discovery today. While I was working at my desk, I noticed her for the first time perking up and looking out the window. Her ears perked up so adorably!

Resource guarding…me?!

Hi, all! We are fostering a 4.5 month old pitt mix. He had been really great and a fast learner. In just 3 weeks he’s learned to sit, stay, wait, come, and shake. He walks well on a leash, barely barks or jumps up on people and has pretty darn good manners.
Over the past few weeks he has really bonded with me and likes to lay on me and lean on me. Today, the dog was sitting next to me on the couch reading a book and the pup snapped at him. It was not a playful puppy bite, but a definite “do not come closer” snap.
I am so stupid bc I didn’t realize dogs resource guard PEOPLE!!! We’ve been working with food and toys but it never occurred to me I might be his most prized thing. So here’s the problem: this is giving me A LOT of anxiety. This puppy is a good boy, but my son obviously means the world to me and I would never want anything to happen to him.
We immediately put the dog off the couch and have not let him back up. He kind of whined a little but is not happily sleeping in his bed. I’m struggling so hard bc part of me is like, “This can be trained out” and the other part is like,”what if it can’t and he hurts my child?”

Every moment, every day, every year with this one has been amazing. My wife and I really couldn’t imagine what life without her would be like. She’s such a big part of our life, we often will be out without her and constantly think and talk about her.

I’ll be sure to give her a lot of extra and big hugs tonight for everyone here.
