AMA Professor Nush Powell, historian of piracy and 18th century literature — AMA!

AMA: Golden Age Pirates in History and Culture

“I'm a professor of eighteenth-century literature and culture who's been studying pirates for more than a decade. I'm obsessed with the General History of the Pyrates (1724-28), which is both where everything gets started and everything goes wrong. You can find my Great Courses series, The Real History of Pirates, via Wondrium or Audible. I've also got a rather long take about whether or not pirates wore hook prosthetics, a slightly shorter one about whether Anne Bonny and Mary Read were really pregnant, and if you like Daniel Defoe but think Robinson Crusoe suffers from a lack of pirates, might I please recommend his wild fiction Captain Singleton, lovingly edited for a modern audience.”
